What appears to be a blink-and-miss continuity error in Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai is drawing attention online, with viewers claiming they can briefly see Kareena Kapoor in the film's climax scene. This, despite the fact that Kareena made way for Ameesha Patel as the film's heroine long before its release.
The moment from the climax has resurfaced on social media, triggering renewed discussion around the film's casting history.
The clip has gained traction because Kareena had originally shot portions of the film before exiting the project, with Ameesha Patel stepping in as the film's leading lady.
The latest online discussion has centred on a brief shot that some viewers believe still features Kareena, followed immediately by a close-up of Ameesha in a different outfit.
Several users reacted to Kareena's exit in the comment section. One user wrote, "Hritik was more comfortable with Kareena he came in more films. With Ameesha only one more movie no mote than. With Kareena at least 4 movies. Then three With Ash. Then Kareena moved towards Ajay Devgan in his Singha and golmal series (sic)," while another commented, "It could have become more memorable and iconic pair. The resurfaced clip has also revived interest in the film's casting timeline. Kareena Kapoor was originally set to make her debut with Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, directed by Rakesh Roshan, opposite Hrithik Roshan in 2000. However, she left the project after shooting for a few days and was later replaced by Ameesha Patel. Kareena eventually made her acting debut with Refugee, alongside Abhishek Bachchan the same year.

Over the years, different versions of why Kareena exited the film have surfaced. Earlier, in an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Ameesha Patel said, "Actually, she didn't back out. From what Rakesh ji told me, he asked her to leave the film because they were having differences. And Pinkie aunty, his wife, and Hrithik's mom, said that they were shocked because the set was ready, and a replacement Sonia had to be found in three days, and crores of rupees had been spent on that set, and it was Hrithik's debut and everyone was really stressed. Pinky aunty told me that the day Rakesh saw me at the wedding, he did not sleep all night. He was like 'I got my Sonia, I got my Sonia, but I hope she says yes'."
Kareena Kapoor's version
Kareena, in an interview with Filmfare, had given a different account. She said, "The film was made for Hrithik. His dad spent five hours on every frame and close-up of his, whereas not even five seconds were spent on Ameesha. There are portions in the film where she has pimples and under-eye bags on her face. She just doesn't look beautiful, but every shot of his was a dream. So, I'm glad I didn't do the film."
Despite the casting change, Kaho Naa.. Pyaar Hai went on to become a commercial and critical success, and established Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel as stars.
