Saswata Chatterjee to play Sourav Ganguly's father Chandi Ganguly in biopic
Saswata Chatterjee has begun filming in Mumbai as Sourav Ganguly's father in the cricketer's biopic. The shoot has now moved into production with key family roles cast and the Kolkata schedule due this month.
Saswata Chatterjee has started shooting for the Sourav Ganguly biopic, Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story, a tentative title, in Mumbai. He is playing Sourav Ganguly's father, Chandi Ganguly. Aparajita Auddy, who plays Sourav's mother Nirupa, and Rahul Dev Bose, who plays his brother Snehasish, are also part of the current schedule.
A source close to the unit spoke to Bombay Times and said that all three actors are currently shooting in Mumbai and that Sourav Ganguly was present on set on Sunday. The source added that the production team will begin shooting in Kolkata from the end of this month.
According to the source, the Vikramaditya Motwane directorial also features Tanya Maniktala as Dona Ganguly, while Rajkummar Rao plays Sourav. Before Tanya was finalised for the role, several Bengali actors, including Mimi Chakraborty, Ishaa Saha and Amrita Chattopadhyay, were rumoured to be in contention.
The biopic is expected to chronicle Sourav Ganguly's journey from his early cricketing years to becoming one of India's most influential and fearless captains. It will also delve into his personal life and his long relationship with Dona.
With the Mumbai schedule under way and the Kolkata shoot set to begin later this month, the film has now moved into production with its cast for key members of Sourav Ganguly's family in place.
