Karan Johar recently had a fanboy moment straight out of a movie scene as he met actors Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway in Tokyo. Sharing glimpses from the interaction on social media, Johar couldn’t contain his excitement as the Hollywood stars were in the city promoting The Devil Wears Prada 2.

Johar poured his heart out in a long note on Instagram, writing, “This is not a caption. This is a confession. I am singularly obsessed and inspired by the unmatchable brilliance of Meryl Streep. In many ways she has been my guru in the art of acting & portraying characters across cinema (sic)."

He added, “I have watched The Devil Wears Prada no less than 47 times. I have quoted it at dinner tables, in edit suites and in board meetings (no kidding!) So when I tell you that standing next to HER & them today, I felt the ground shift, please believe me. I tried very hard to be calm and composed but here’s a another confession – my knees were RATTLING (sic)."

The filmmaker added that they were both warm and welcoming, and that the image would be something he would cherish forever. He also hinted that there was much more to come, mentioning that he had a conversation with the favourites of the season, before signing off.

All about The Devil Wears Prada 2

The meeting comes amid growing anticipation for The Devil Wears Prada 2, which reunites key members of the original team. Director David Frankel and writer Aline Brosh McKenna return for the sequel, alongside stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci.

The sequel also expands its ensemble with actors like Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, BJ Novak, and Pauline Chalamet, among others. Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman will reprise their roles from the original film.

Scheduled to release on May 1, 2026, by 20th Century Studios, the sequel is set years after the original story. It follows Andy (Hathaway) as she returns to Runway magazine in a transformed media landscape, while Miranda Priestly (Streep) faces new challenges as the publication's future hangs in the balance.
