Actor Ranveer Singh was seen at the airport on Tuesday, a day after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) imposed a non-cooperation directive against him over his exit from Don 3. The actor avoided any interaction with photographers as the row over the film continued.

FWICE announced the ban against him at a press conference on Monday. It said that the members should not cooperate with Singh until the dispute is resolved. The body also backed the producers' demand for reimbursement of alleged pre-production losses of Rs 45 crore after reports said the actor walked out shortly before shooting was to begin.

In a video from the airport, Singh was seen heading inside the premises in a white kurta pyjama with a black overcoat. He covered his face with a mask and sunglasses. He did not stop to speak, even as paparazzi called out to him and cheered for "Baba".

FWICE stand and the complaint

According to FWICE, Farhan Akhtar and Riteish Sidhwani-run Excel Entertainment filed a complaint in April and said Singh had signed a three-film contract with the banner. But, ten days before the Don 3 shooting could commence, the actor exited the project, leading to heavy losses for the production house.
The federation said the producers also sought compensation for heavy pre-production expenses incurred before the actor's exit.

FWICE said it had tried to mediate the issue. However, the film body claimed that Singh declined to discuss the matter with the federation, saying it required an "appropriate" forum. Even so, the organisation said it remained open to further talks.

In its statement, FWICE said the film industry functions as one extended family and that artists, technicians, workers, producers and directors are bound by mutual trust, professional commitments, respect and collective responsibility. It added that sudden exits from projects by senior and established actors at crucial stages pose a serious threat to the stability and working ecology of the entertainment industry.

Ranveer Singh's response

In an official statement, Singh's spokesperson said the actor had consciously chosen to remain silent through the issue. The statement said professional discussions and personal equations were best handled with dignity, maturity and mutual respect.

The spokesperson added that Singh holds the highest regard for the film fraternity and for everyone associated with the Don franchise. The statement said that although several narratives and speculations had surfaced, he had not considered it necessary to respond publicly or contribute to conjecture. It added that he wishes the franchise continued success and will not discuss the matter in the media.

Film remains under scrutiny

Directed by Farhan Akhtar, Don 3 has been under scrutiny since its announcement in 2023. The film has already seen delays and casting changes.
