Sharon Stone recalls how husband abandoned her during a breast cancer scare
Sharon Stone said her ex-husband Phil Bronstein walked out after doctors urged a bilateral mastectomy during her breast cancer scare. She said his reaction showed the marriage was over and underscored her insistence on deciding her own treatment.

Actor Sharon Stone has said her decision to undergo a double mastectomy during a breast cancer scare also exposed deep problems in her marriage to journalist Phil Bronstein. The actor said she chose not to wait and see what might happen and instead opted for a bilateral mastectomy after doctors found breast tumours and told her the situation was serious.
Speaking on The Person Who Believed In Me podcast, Stone said she had expected support from Bronstein but felt alone. She revealed that his reaction made her realise that their relationship was in serious trouble and that the marriage was effectively over.
Recalling the episode, Stone said, "I had breast tumours. One of them was bigger than the size of my entire left breast. The doctor had come out to my house and said, 'Look, we think you should have a bilateral mastectomy. This is really bad.' And we usually when they're all the way up, we know we go in that they're cancer."
"I said, 'I don't have cancer.' And he said, 'You don't get to decide that.' And I said, 'I do. I do get to decide that. I'm deciding, but I am deciding that I will have a bilateral because I'm not f*****g around. And my husband said, 'Wow, this is ridiculous.' And got up and left the room," the actor added.
Stone said her doctor supported her decision and told her husband that more women might survive serious health problems if they took the same approach. She also made it clear that the final decision about her body and medical treatment would be hers.
The 68-year-old said she came away feeling that Bronstein saw her decisions as unnecessary and believed she was making too many decisions by herself, which added to the strain in their relationship. Stone recalled, adding, "That was the end of the marriage. That was it. He was done with me then. It was over. It was just over in the room."
Stone and Bronstein were married from 1998 until their divorce in 2004. In speaking about the episode, she said the health scare and her husband's response brought the problems in their marriage into sharp focus. She did not reveal whether she is currently dating anyone.
Stone, known for her opinionated views, had backed actor Sofia Vergara's statement about dating rich men. While reacting to Vergara's remarks on social media, the Basic Instinct actor added clapping emojis.
On the work front, Stone had previously opened up about being 'unexpectedly removed' from Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick's Another Simple Favor. “I LOVED being cast and removed from my role unexpectedly for no reason at all LOVED it (sic),” she wrote in a social media comment.
Stone was last seen in the American action film, Nobody 2.
