Videos showing a new title card for Vijay's upcoming film, Jana Nayagan, have triggered celebrations in theatres across the South. Clips shared on X showed the card carrying a new line that read: "Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu C. Joseph Vijay in Jana Nayagan."

The clips surfaced soon after Vijay's political debut, in which his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), emerged as the single-largest party in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly with 108 seats. The videos showed fans cheering, dancing and celebrating inside theatres.

Social media users described the updated card as a significant moment. One fan wrote, "First ever CM title card for an ACTOR in India." However, it is still unclear which theatre screened the version carrying the updated title card.

The inclusion of the Chief Minister reference appeared to mirror the mood among Vijay's supporters after the election result. Following his victory, fans had been demanding that Jana Nayagan acknowledge his new political position.

Jana Nayagan makers on Vijay's electoral win

Reacting to Vijay's win, Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions posted a congratulatory message on X. It read, "Heartiest congratulations to our 'Jana Nayagan', Thalapathy Vijay sir, on scripting history today against all odds. It is indeed a revolution and one that will echo for generations to come (sic)."

Jana Nayagan release controversy

Jana Nayagan has not yet been released in theatres. After missing its January 9 release date, the makers had hoped to bring the film to cinemas in February, but that did not happen either. The Tamil film reportedly contains political references, which led the Censor Board to forward it to the Election Commission, particularly after the Model Code of Conduct came into force on March 15.

Billed as Vijay's final film, Jana Nayagan is directed by H Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions. The film also stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Mamitha Baiju.
