Parliament Monsoon Session 2020: Is Suspension of Question Hour Undemocratic?

The Question hour has been done away with. This has led to a sharp pushback against the Modi govt from the opposition. Facing heat, the government said it was forced by the Covid-19 pandemic to scrap the Question Hour. It said it respects the accountability the Question Hour brings to parliamentary democracy. The records of the two Houses tell a story - how every party has contributed to the decline of the Question Hour. Over the last two decades, not only have members of Parliament and their parties disrupted or not used the time allotted for the Question Hour but have also demanded almost on a daily basis that the heads of the two Houses must adjourn it, or simply put, scrap it on that particular day. Video: Vijay takes oath as Tamil Nadu CM amid loud cheers and chants

TVK leader C Joseph Vijay on Sunday took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu amid a sea of supporters, his friends and family, and several political leaders. Eight other TVK leaders were sworn in besides him, as ministers in the new government. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also attended the ceremony. The TVK managed to secure the Governor's nod to form the government after the Congress, the CPI, the CPI(M), the VCK, and IUML extended their support to the Vijay-led party for a colaition government.
