Heavy rain to drench east, northeast, heatwave to ease in north India on Wednesday

A fresh round of pre-monsoon activity is set to bring thunderstorms, gusty winds and rain across north and east India on April 29. The shift could bring heatwave relief in parts of Uttar Pradesh even as Bihar and the Northeast brace for stronger weather.

A fresh spell of pre-monsoon activity is set to impact large parts of India on April 29, bringing thunderstorms, gusty winds and scattered rainfall across north and east India, while intense heat continues to grip several regions.

According to the latest weather outlook, light thunderstorms and rain are likely across parts of north India, but more significant weather activity is expected in eastern and northeastern regions.

States such as Bihar, West Bengal and northeastern states including Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim are likely to witness moderate to heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms.

In particular, northeastern parts of Bihar could see intense showers accompanied by lightning, dust storms and strong winds. These conditions may lead to sudden weather disruptions, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.

"Parts of Uttar Pradesh are also expected to receive rainfall, offering some relief from the ongoing heatwave. Regions such as Bundelkhand, which have been experiencing extreme temperatures, may see a gradual shift in conditions as rain-bearing systems move in from the west," said Devendra Tripathi, Founder, Mausam Tak.

Cities including Prayagraj, Varanasi, Amethi, Rae Bareli and Ayodhya have been recording temperatures close to 45°C, with Banda witnessing extreme conditions above 47°C for several consecutive days.

While rainfall chances remain lower in some of these areas, neighbouring districts in eastern Uttar Pradesh, including Gorakhpur, Azamgarh and Jaunpur, are more likely to experience thunderstorms.

Further north, isolated rain and storm activity is expected across Punjab and Haryana, as well as in the Himalayan regions of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

In contrast, rainfall activity will remain limited across much of central India, including Chhattisgarh, Odisha and parts of Madhya Pradesh, though isolated showers cannot be ruled out. Rajasthan is also expected to see only patchy and light rainfall.

Southern India will witness relatively milder conditions, with light rain likely over parts of Karnataka, including interior and coastal regions. Isolated showers are also expected in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Overall, the weather pattern suggests a mix of heat and instability, with eastern India bracing for heavy rain while northern plains could see partial relief from scorching temperatures. Residents are advised to remain alert for sudden thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, especially in vulnerable regions.
