DC vs RCB Highlights, IPL 2026: RCB (77/1 in 6.3 ov), Bhuvneshwar, Hazlewood sink DC's ship in Delhi

Punjab Kings are all set to take on the Rajasthan Royals in New Chandigarh. The Kings are still unbeaten and will look to sustain that streak, whereas the Royals, who have lost three of their last four games, will be looking to get their campaign back on track. RCB boss the game - Something for the bowlers to smile about and keep this as a souvenir, eh? Royal Challengers Bengaluru are looking like an unstoppable force in their title defence as they strengthen their spot in the top half of the table. They also exact revenge for that defeat at Chinnaswamy earlier in the season, when the Delhi Capitals came to their den and walked away with the points. Another win on the road for the defending champions, and now, they head to Ahmedabad for their next challenge against the Gujarat Titans. That game will be played on Thursday, 30th April. For Delhi Capitals, though, they have faced two consecutive morale-denting defeats and will look to bounce back strongly in their next fixture against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur, on Friday, 1st May.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Josh Hazlewood receives the award for excellent bowling figures of 4/12 in 3.3 overs. Hazlewood says that Bhuvi was excellent, and he just followed his lead. Adds that the ball was skidding on well, and he tried to make use of that opportunity. Josh further says that the wicket had something for the bowlers, and it worked well for him with his short balls. He reckons that they are doing well as a team, and all the boxes have been ticked so far, and they have adapted well to the conditions. Hazlewood ends by saying that they are building on last season's success and are hitting their straps again at the right time.

The victorious captain of RCB - Rajat Patidar says he was surprised by the way the wicket played. He gives full credit to the bowlers for hitting the right areas, calling it tremendous to watch. He adds that the swing was pretty normal, but early wickets kept them in the driving seat. Patidar says the plan was to use Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood in spells of three overs each after the early wickets. Mentions that Suyash Sharma also got a good purchase from the pitch and praises him for keeping it stump to stump. Rajat stresses the importance of sticking to routines and taking one game at a time, and says different players stepping up is a really good sign for the team.

A quick word from RCB's star batter - Devdutt Padikkal says that it was great to see how Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood bowled. Adds that the way they were bowling, he was expecting a catch on every ball. DDP believes that he was not great in the field during his early days, but he kept on practising to improve. Ends by saying that Bethell's start was good, and they wanted to finish the game as soon as possible.

The captain of the Delhi Capitals - Axar Patel, reacting to the loss, says he doesn't know what happened. He adds that you have to be on your toes in this sport and stresses the need to forget this game quickly and move on. Axar says you have to keep doing your work regardless of the results. He adds that there is nothing like an easy win in the IPL and stresses that bygones are bygones.  Patel urges the team to stay positive, and he also makes it clear that it is not about pointing fingers at anyone after a loss. When asked if he was surprised by the help Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood got, Axar says not really, adding that they are world-class bowlers. He feels that if the top order had seen off a couple of overs, it could have been a different score, and gives credit to the RCB bowlers.

Pace masterclass destroys DC's batting - A dust storm was forecast across Delhi NCR on Monday night. What nobody warned Delhi Capitals about was the one that arrived in red and gold. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood were absolutely ruthless with the new ball, picking up six wickets between them in the first four overs and effectively ending the contest before it had even begun. Outside edges, sharp short balls, batters beaten for pace and movement repeatedly - survival itself looked like a challenge at the Kotla. KL Rahul, Nitish Rana, Stubbs - none of them had any answers. David Miller and impact substitute Abishek Porel offered some resistance, but they were always playing catch-up. Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma chipped in through the middle, before Hazlewood came back to wrap things up and complete a demolition job that the Delhi faithful will want to forget in a hurry.

39 balls - It was all RCB needed to hunt down a target of 76. They did lose Jacob Bethell after an intent-laden start that featured a couple of cracking biggies, but from there it was Devdutt Padikkal's ruthless assault, graced by Kohli's steady anchor, that coasted them safely home. Just the previous game at this very venue saw records shattered and history rewritten, with the highest successful run-chase in IPL history playing out in front of a packed Kotla. But this evening, the same ground told a very different tale, with every ball faced feeling like a step onto a minefield for the DC batters.

Royal Challengers conquer the Capital - An absolute stroll in the park for RCB, and fittingly, it is Virat Kohli who hits the winning runs at the very ground where he grew up playing this sport before going on to become the master of it all. The Kotla erupts in boisterous cheers for the chase master as RCB keep marching forward in their title defence, looking every bit the champions they are. As for the Delhi Capitals, this is their third defeat in a row, and now they have lost four out of their previous five matches, after starting so nicely. It is a difficult time for Axar Patel and his men as problems keep rising. They could not defend 264 the other night, and this time around, they were bundled out for 75. Two brutal results in quick succession, and they will need to regroup fast as time is slipping out of their hands.

2.5: Kyle Jamieson to Jacob Bethell, OUT! HIGH UP AND TAKEN! Geez, that's a sensational catch from T Natarajan. A slower one, floated up on a length at 122.6 kph, angling it close to the off stump. Bethell backs away to the leg side and swings at it, but the timing is all wrong. The ball climbs high into the sky, just not far enough in the long on region. T Natarajan runs a good 20-25 yards behind over his right shoulder and sees the ball like a hawk and catches it. He keeps running with the momentum but just manages to pull the handbrake before the ropes. However, the on-field umpires want to have a look at the legality of the catch. The replays show that Natarajan is not in contact with the boundary ropes, and it is a clean catch. If this game has offered very little else for the Delhi Capitals, at least they have this moment. Royal Challengers Bengaluru are 26/1, chasing 76 runs.

T Natarajan takes a brilliant running catch. But is it a fair catch? By the looks of it, it seems so. The third umpire takes a look at the couple of replays and confirms that it was a clean catch.

... THE RUN CHASE ...

RCB eye a quick finish - Axar Patel spoke about the lack of wickets in the Powerplay at the toss, and that being one of the reasons behind bringing in Dushmantha Chameera and Kyle Jamieson. They now have it all to do, to make every run hard-earned for RCB in this chase on what is not that bad a surface to bat on as the Delhi batters made it look. At the same time, RCB will be keen to wrap this up quickly and give their already healthy net run rate an extra boost. Back in a bit for the chase.

Brief resistance - One would have thought Rajat Patidar would bowl out Bhuvneshwar and Hazlewood then and there and go for the kill, but he opted against it. A couple of partnerships did develop for the Capitals that helped them avoid the lowest total in IPL history (49 all out for RCB against KKR in 2017). That resistance did not last long, with Abishek Porel running out of partners before Josh Hazlewood sent him packing to complete the clean-up job.

Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar run riot - Before the dust storm paid a visit, it was RCB's new-ball attack that hit DC like a storm. Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar did not do anything extraordinary, just stuck to simple Test-match lines and lengths. In many ways, DC were architects of their own downfall, with some ordinary shot selection from their batters. With three wickets each for the two RCB quicks inside the first four overs, DC were reduced to 8/6.

A quick chat - Bhuvneshwar Kumar says that the ball is swinging this year, and he feels good about it. Says that when it does, wickets tend to follow. He calls it a good batting wicket but says it was one of those days where things fell their way and they were fortunate to pick up wickets in a heap. Bhuvneshwar admits the movement did surprise even him, but says that only gave them the confidence to keep pushing. He adds that he was happy to get his three overs done up front. Bhuvi highlights that in the last match at this ground, where both sides made huge scores, it made clear that they needed to use whatever conditions were available and take early wickets. Adds that the extra swing was a welcome surprise. On whether he asked for a fourth over, Bhuvneshwar is quick to deny. He says he was tired as it was very hot, and he was more than happy to call it a night at three overs, adding that at his age, he did not want to push himself too hard.

A stark contrast - The Delhi Capitals posted 264 on 25th April against the Punjab Kings, but just 75 tonight. After a bowling effort to forget, they have followed it up with a batting display they would rather not remember. This is the third-lowest total for DC in the history of the IPL.

At 144 kph, Josh cannons in a pinpoint yorker, landing it right at the base of the middle stump. Abishek Porel bends low and tries to squeeze it out to the off side, but his bat comes after the ball is pitched, and he sees the stumps in an absolute mess behind. Josh Hazlewood ends with a 4-for.

STRATEGIC BREAK! There have been flashes of resistance from DC with a couple of partnerships, but every time they have looked to build, RCB have cut them short. Bhuvneshwar Kumar sticks to the line around the left-hander's off stump and keeps it on a good length. Axar looks to cover the line and keep it out on the off side. The ball skids through and does not rise as much as the DC skipper anticipated. It grazes the toe of the blade before going behind to the keeper. Jitesh Sharma leans forward and gets his gloves out in front to scoop the catch cleanly with his gloves under the ball.

2.3: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Axar Patel, Did it go off the bat? The appeal for a caught behind has been turned down by the umpire. There was a noise and RCB are going upstairs. Tailing back in sharply towards the off stump. Patel gets the front pad out of the way and jams his bat down. The replays show that there is a daylight gap between the bat and the ball. No need for UltraEdge, says the third umpire. The noise was actually of the bat hitting the turf. RCB lose a review. Oh, hang on. The UltraEdge later comes up and shows that there is a spike, not of the edge, but of the ball grazing the off stump.

Rizvi's eyes light up as he sees the width on offer. His feet go nowhere and he goes for the expansive drive well away from his body. The ball takes the feather of an outside edge and Jitesh Sharma gobbles it up. A golden duck for Rizvi. A bit of lean patch continues for him after a promising start to the tournament.

That was a rare loose shot from KL Rahul, especially this early in the innings. RCB on the top, DC under pressure. Sameer Rizvi is in at number 4.

Continue putting in the hard yards - The skipper of the Delhi Capitals, Axar Patel says they would have bowled first as well. Adds that night games here tend to be high-scoring, and considering the last game and the dimensions of the ground, chasing is the better option. Axar shares that after the last game, the talk was about the positives and what they could have done better. Further says that had they taken their chances, the result could have been different. Patel believes that games come thick and fast in the IPL, so it is important to stay mentally strong and not let the previous game affect you. Informs that they have made three changes with Sahil Parakh, Kyle Jamieson and Dushmantha Chameera coming into the side. The DC captain explains the reason behind the team changes, saying they have lacked wickets in the Powerplay and feel the need for overseas options to strengthen that area.

A no-brainer to bowl first - The captain of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajat Patidar notes that it's a pretty high-scoring ground and they want to put DC under pressure while chasing. Says it won't change a lot throughout. On what attributes have made RCB succeed, Rajat points to different players stepping up in different matches and doing the job for the team. Patidar says they have played good cricket in the first half of the tournament, and the focus is simply on carrying that momentum forward into the second half. On the talk of revenge after their last meeting against the Delhi Capitals, Patidar is a bit dismissive, saying that it's all in the past and everyone is here to play good cricket. About the team combination, Rajat informs that they are going unchanged for this game.
