Just how fast the night changes? Only two days after recording one of the highest totals in the history of the Indian Premier League, Delhi Capitals endured a horror show with the bat, getting reduced to 13 for 6 inside the powerplay.

Playing against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the DC batting order was blown away by veterans Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood and lost 6 wickets inside the powerplay for just 13 runs.

In turn, they registered the worst powerplay figures in the history of the Indian Premier League, beating SunRisers Hyderabad's record of 14/3 against Rajasthan Royals in 2022.

Lowest Powerplay Scores in IPL

  • 2026 - DC vs RCB: 13/6, Delhi
  • 2022 – SRH vs RR: 14/3, Pune
  • 2009 – RR vs RCB: 14/2, Cape Town
  • 2011 – CSK vs KKR: 15/2, Kolkata
  • 2015 – CSK vs DC: 16/1, Raipur
  • 2019 – CSK vs RCB: 16/1, Chennai

Delhi's horror show with the bat came just hours after co-owner Parth Jindal gave his team a vote of confidence ahead of the match against RCB. Jindal tried to lift the mood of the DC camp after their tough loss against Punjab Kings in the previous game.

“Time to turn the heat on @DelhiCapitals we all know how good this squad is - time to be together, time to play together and time to bring our best cricket to the @IPL - this is where our season truly begins,” Jindal had said.

On Monday, April 27, veterans Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar ran through the hosts inside the first six overs. Bhuvneshwar started with a sensational dismissal of debutant Sahil Parakh, which Hazlewood doubled down on.

The Australian dismissed KL Rahul and Sameer Rizvi in back-to-back balls and then dismissed Nitish Rana with a sharp bouncer. Bhuvneshwar Kumar then proceeded to send back Tristan Stubbs and Axar Patel with continued excellence in swing bowling, ringing alarm bells in the Delhi camp.

The duo were taken off the powerplay, having bowled 3 overs each. Bhuvneshwar registered figures of 3-0-5-3, while Hazlewood registered 3-0-8-3.

The match against defending champions RCB was a crucial one for Delhi. With just three wins in seven games, DC are outside the top four and need momentum quickly to stay in the playoff race. Their loss to Punjab highlighted recurring issues. Despite posting one of the highest totals of the season, they conceded 265, raising serious concerns around their bowling and catching standards.
