My kids call him Shreyas Bhaiya: Preity Zinta praises Iyer's warm side

Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta has heaped praise on Shreyas Iyer, lauding him for his leadership and warm and approachable personality. Iyer has a crucial part of the PBKS setup since joining them in 2025 for Rs 26.75 crore. Zinta described Iyer as an “inspiring and strategic leader” who leads by example, underlining his calm and intelligent approach on and off the field.

Zinta’s remarks reflect Iyer’s growing stature as captain of PBKS, where he has been credited with bringing stability and clarity to the side. Known for his composed demeanour, Iyer has built a reputation as a leader who remains accessible to every member of the squad, fostering a strong team environment.

What stood out most, however, was Zinta’s heartwarming personal note. She revealed that her children share a special bond with the PBKS skipper, saying they “lovingly call him Shreyas Bhaiya”. The comment offers a glimpse into Iyer’s off-field persona, someone who connects effortlessly beyond cricket.

Taking to X, (formerly Twitter), Zinta wrote, “He is an inspiring and strategic leader that leads by example. Intelligent, calm , inclusive and accessible to the whole team. On a fun note he is also incredible with kids that’s why my kids lovingly call him Shreyas Bhaiya and adore him.”

IYER KEEPS SHINING IN IPL 2026

Shreyas Iyer has been one of the standout performers for Punjab Kings in IPL 2026. In the early phase of the season, Iyer has scored around 279 runs in seven matches at an impressive average of nearly 69.75, with a strike rate close to 186.

Iyer has already registered scores of 50, 66 and an unbeaten 69 in successive innings, underlining his ability to both anchor and accelerate when required.

One of his defining performances came in a record chase against Delhi Capitals, where he remained unbeaten on 71, guiding Punjab Kings to a historic win as they registered the highest successful run chase in T20 cricket.

Under Iyer’s leadership, Punjab Kings remain the only unbeaten team in the competition. They sit at the top of the table with 13 points and a net run rate of +1.333, having won six of their first seven matches.
