Hello and welcome to our live coverage of Match 4 of the Indian Premier League, where Shreyas Iyer's Punjab Kings play the Gujarat Titans led by Shubman Gill at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on Tuesday, March 31.

23:46 IST:
Until next time - That’s all from this game, where last season’s finalists, the Punjab Kings get the better of Gujarat Titans, setting the tone early in the season. Now, only two teams remain to take the field - Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants, who will battle it out at the Ekana Stadium on 1st April, Wednesday. The match will begin at 2 pm GMT (7:30 pm IST), and as always, you can join us early for all the build-up. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
23:52 IST:
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Undoubtedly, it is Cooper Connolly who wins the award for his match-winning 72* off 44. He says he was simply eager to get out there and share the field with world-class players. He adds that starting the season with a win was exactly what the side wanted. On his build-up, he describes it as a reset through a couple of practice days at home, time with family and friends, and a conscious decision to walk into the IPL as fresh as possible. Connolly says range hitting is not quite his thing. He identifies as a tempo player who relies on feel and lets his hands do the work rather than chasing big hits. He speaks warmly about his time working with Ricky Ponting, calling the first five days great and saying he is looking forward to what lies ahead in the tournament. On what was being said in the middle when the chase got difficult, Connolly reveals he kept it brief. He says that he felt calm and still believed the side was well placed. Details that Marco Jansen was composed, and Xavier Bartlett came out with a big smile on his face, which said it all. Connolly adds that the time he has spent with Xavier before made that partnership feel natural. He adds that he is looking forward to the rest of the tournament.
23:52 IST:
The victorious skipper of Punjab Kings - Shreyas Iyer says that he does not want to jinx anything and hopes that his hand will be fine. Adds that it was a pleasure to watch Cooper Connolly play some of those shots. To hit a bowler like Rashid Khan so cleanly and neatly takes a special talent. Iyer shares that he was more focused on his hand when they lost a couple of wickets quickly, and it got a bit tense but these things happen in cricket. He had the belief in Cooper, who was set and had a great mindset, already doing similar things for Australia. Mentions that after the 3rd over, they realised the wicket was on the slower side and bowling into the wicket and slower ones was the way to go here. Iyer praises Vijaykumar Vyshak and says he is carrying his form from last year's final and it is great to see him perform consistently. He admits he was a bit surprised when Gill placed a short-leg for him and also reckons it is good to see the captains attacking.

23:38 IST:
Let's hear from Xavier Bartlett - On hitting a six against Prasidh Krishna, Bartlett says he was anticipating the short ball and set himself up accordingly. He reveals a quick chat with Connolly at the other end, who was batting well and kept the message simple - pick up the ball, and if it's in your zone, go for it. Bartlett is glad it came off. Detailing about Buttler's catch that he took at long on, Bartlett credits that to the hours he puts into his fielding, and traces some of that athleticism back to his football days growing up. He says he timed the jump well and was glad it stuck. On the win, he calls it a great feeling to open the season with a victory at home, adding that playing in front of the Punjab crowd made it sweeter.
23:36 IST:
The captain of Gujarat Titans - Shubman Gill appreciates a strong bowling effort but concedes the side lost its grip in the final four to five overs, allowing the runs to flow too freely. Gill reveals the dressing room read the pitch as a 170-180 surface, not a 200-plus one. He says the target felt within reach at one stage but wickets kept falling at the wrong time and the side failed to bat through the back end. On the conditions, he notes the older ball made it hard to hit straight, with the pitch offering little pace and even less grip in the second innings. Gill explains the ball got wet due to rain during their bowling, which killed the grip off the surface and made it harder to contain in the second innings. Bishop asks Gill whether Prasidh Krishna was brought into the attack a little too late. To which, Gill concedes he could have brought Prasidh on earlier but insists the side stayed in the game till the end and there will always be questions in hindsight. He backs Ashok Sharma, saying he bowled well both up front and at the death, and believes the youngster will only grow in value with more game time. Gill speaks warmly of him as a hard worker and a fine fielder, adding that a camp meeting a couple of months ago left him genuinely impressed. Signing off, Gill keeps his message to the team simple - well done, hard luck, stay intense, keep giving everything.
23:32 IST:
Late surge not enough for GT - Gujarat can take plenty of positives from their bowling effort, though Shubman Gill might feel he missed a few tricks with his changes. Rabada did provide the early breakthrough but proved a bit expensive, while Rashid Khan was back to his economical best and chipped in with a wicket as well, even as they were largely chasing the game. The tide began to turn when Gill introduced Prasidh in the 13th over, and he made an instant impact, picking up three wickets in quick succession to give them a real sniff. One could argue he might have been brought on earlier, but the damage done prior to that meant the Titans ultimately didn’t have enough to get over the line.
23:31 IST:
PBKS take charge after GT slip - Earlier in the game, Gujarat Titans posted a total that felt below par on this wicket. None of their batters managed to convert starts, with Gill and Buttler both falling in their 30s, while Phillips chipped in with a cameo. However, the lack of meaningful partnerships through the middle overs meant the innings lost momentum badly, and they were unable to finish with a late flourish as well. Jansen and Chahal were the chief damage-causers with the ball for PBKS, combining for figures of 3/48 in their 8 overs. Vijaykumar Vyshak was also outstanding, picking up a three-fer while operating in the tougher phases of the innings.
23:41 IST:
Debut delight for Connolly - Despite losing Arya early, Punjab got off to a strong start through Connolly and Prabhsimran Singh, with both showcasing their class and power to add over 50 in the Powerplay and 76 in total before Singh was dismissed. Iyer then joined the Australian in the middle and the duo stitched together another solid stand, making the chase look straightforward. However, the tide turned when Iyer took a blow on his right hand from Cooper and fell on the very next ball. Punjab suddenly slipped from 110/2 to 118/6, but the positive for them was that Connolly was still at the crease. He kept his composure, bringing up his maiden IPL fifty on debut in fine fashion and ensured he guided his side over the line, staying unbeaten on 72 off 44, with Jansen and Xavier Bartlett also playing handy supporting roles.
23:23 IST:
PBKS edge a twisted tale - Punjab Kings kick off their campaign with a win, but my word, they made it far harder than it needed to be in what turned out to be a thriller filled with twists and turns. They will be more relieved than delighted, having let things slip into a tricky situation, and the middle order will certainly come under scrutiny. Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, fought back admirably to turn it into a contest, but will feel it just slipped away from them in the end, with Cooper Connolly standing tall for the Kings on his debut.
23:22 IST:
19.1: Washington Sundar to Cooper Connolly, FOUR! That's it! A poetic end to what has been an extremely competitive game of cricket in New Chandigarh. And it is the 22-year-old Aussie who stands tall at the end, repaying his team’s faith at number three with a debut knock that will be remembered for a long time. Sundar fires it in, full and on the off stump line. Cooper Connolly presses forward and executes a high-quality cover drive, through the gap between cover and point for a boundary to finish things off in style. Cooper Connolly stays unbeaten on 72 off just 44 balls. PUNJAB KINGS WIN BY 3 WICKETS!

PBKS vs GT Live: Prasidh’s triple strike leaves Punjab in trouble

The collapse has deepened for Punjab Kings, now six down after Prasidh Krishna picked up his third wicket. Marcus Stoinis departed for a duck, miscuing a short ball straight to Rashid Khan at third man. It’s been a devastating spell from Prasidh, who has turned the game on its head in a matter of overs. PBKS, once cruising, now find themselves under serious pressure despite the manageable asking rate. From a very comfortable 110/2, they have slipped down badly to 118/5, losing Shreyas, Wadhera and now Shashank en route. Holding back Prasidh Krishna’s introduction has worked like a charm for the Titans, it seems. The Kings still need 45 runs from 32 balls, and with Cooper Connolly well set at one end, they will fancy their chances of pulling this back. He has been kind of starved for strike, and is joined by his country-mate and senior pro, Marcus Stoinis, who walks in at number 7.

Gujarat Titans have pulled things back with a crucial double moment in this phase. Earlier, Rashid Khan had broken the 76-run stand by removing Prabhsimran Singh. Despite a fifty partnership between Prabhsimran and Connolly, PBKS have lost momentum. PBKS Live: Iyer in pain after accidental blow in field

A worrying moment for Punjab Kings as Shreyas Iyer is down after being struck while fielding. The ball, hit firmly by Cooper Connolly towards the long-off region, appears to have caught Iyer awkwardly near the wrist. The physios are out immediately, and he is clearly in discomfort as treatment begins. The numbing spray is being applied, with teammates checking in, including Connolly, who looked concerned despite the accidental hit. PBKS will be hoping it’s nothing serious, as Iyer’s presence remains crucial both as captain and batter in this contest. The good news is that Iyer is batting.

Punjab Kings Live: Rain at Mullanpur?

Rashid Khan has delivered a timely breakthrough, dismissing Prabhsimran Singh with a delivery that straightened just enough to induce a mistimed shot. After being under pressure earlier, Rashid will feel he has done his job by breaking a key stand. However, there’s now a new concern — rain. Drizzle is beginning to hover around Mullanpur, and conditions could interrupt play. The good news for Punjab Kings is that they are currently ahead of the DLS par score, which could prove crucial if the weather worsens. This phase suddenly carries added significance.

PBKS vs GT Live: Connolly targets Rashid as Sundar under pressure

Punjab Kings are beginning to split their approach smartly, with Cooper Connolly taking on Rashid Khan while Prabhsimran Singh looks to attack Washington Sundar. Rashid, in particular, hasn’t quite found his ideal length, hovering between short and full without consistency. The lack of sharp turn has also reduced his threat, allowing batters to line him up more comfortably than usual. For Gujarat Titans, this phase is slipping slightly as PBKS look to dictate terms. Rashid will need to quickly adjust and find his rhythm to regain control of the middle overs.

IPL 2026 Live: So close yet so far

A moment of drama as Prabhsimran Singh survives a close LBW call against Rashid Khan. The leg-break struck him in front as he attempted a sweep, and he was given out on-field. However, Prabhsimran opted for the review, and UltraEdge revealed a faint inside edge onto the thigh guard. The decision was overturned, much to Punjab Kings’ relief. It was a sharp call under pressure, and one that keeps PBKS steady in the early phase. Rashid, meanwhile, continues to look threatening despite being denied a wicket here.

21:42 IST:
The hosts charged up for the pursuit - After a strong bowling display, the Punjab Kings will hope to replicate that with their batting effort as well. But remember, they do have an underwhelming record at this venue, and would be keen to improve on that as well. In equal measure, Gujarat Titans will need a collective bowling effort to prevent the Kings from crossing the line. It's quite windy out there, so the new ball phase will be a delicious one to watch out. Another solid battle between bat and ball coming up in the second dig. Run chase up next in a few minutes. Stay tuned.
21:42 IST:
Up for a quick chat with the broadcasters - Punjab Kings' Yuzvendra Chahal and the master at his craft, says that he is very happy with his performance. Adds that when he saw the wicket in the evening, it was dry. Mentions that when he saw the cutters from the pacers gripping, he knew he was in the game. Says that varying the pace was key on this wicket. Shares that he was bowling a bit quicker at the start but then varied his pace and lines as well. On being asked about Gill's wicket, he says that he bowled a couple of wide ones, then thought of taking a chance of attacking the stumps and it worked out.
21:43 IST:
Squeeze, strikes, shutdown - If the Powerplay belonged to Gujarat, the middle and the death phase saw the Punjab Kings claw their way back with discipline and control. Jansen and Yuzvendra Chahal turned the game. hitting the right lengths and varying pace smartly to choke the run flow, conceding just 48 runs in their combined effort of 8 overs. Vijaykumar Vyshak added another layer to the squeeze, banging in tough overs and striking thrice with bowling figures of 3/34. Buttler and Glenn Phillips added 36, but it felt more like survival than domination, and both fell trying to shift gears. As a result, the Titans couldn't get the desired finish and were restricted to below 170.
21:37 IST:
Silk start, sudden stumble - Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill picked up from last season like nothing changed, gliding through the Powerplay at 10 an over with pure, clean strokeplay. No slogging, just high-class batting on a belter. Sudharsan looked set before Marco Jansen cut him off in the restrictions, but Gill kept it flowing with crisp boundaries. The Gill-Buttler stand brought up 46, but a brief slowdown after the sixth over cost them Gill, with the Titans slipping to 83/2.
21:37 IST:
A job well done by the Kings - Well, it was a loooooooooooong 20th over, which refused to end, but despite 12 runs coming from it, Punjab Kings would be the happier of the two sides heading back into the dressing room. They conceded just 78 in the last ten overs to claw their way back in the contest and restrict the Titans to a somewhat below-par total. However, there was a fair bit of help for the likes of Chahal, and the slower ones troubled the batters too, which the Titans bowlers might look to replicate in their defence. But they do have a big task up their sleeves.

GT Live Score: Messy final over sums up chaotic finish

The final over has descended into complete chaos, with neither side finding control. Arshdeep Singh has struggled for rhythm, conceding multiple extras and stretching the over to 11 deliveries in his effort to avoid big hits. At the other end, Rahul Tewatia has looked equally unsettled, unable to capitalise despite the freebies on offer. GT Live Score: Sundar dismissal highlights lack of power game

Washington Sundar’s dismissal underlines a recurring concern in his T20 approach — the lack of power when shots aren’t perfectly timed. In this format, relying purely on timing can be limiting, especially against disciplined bowling on good surfaces. Sundar looked to play his shots but couldn’t generate enough force to clear the field, eventually paying the price. In a role that demands impact, this raises questions about adaptability. To be more effective, he may need to add a stronger power-hitting dimension, ensuring he can still score when timing doesn’t come off. Shahrukh also ends up getting dismissed as well. All in all it was a woeful night for the GT batters.

IPL 2026 Live: Take a bow Jansen

In an era where 200-plus totals have become routine, Marco Jansen’s spell stands out as a reminder that bowlers can still dictate terms. On what appears to be a flat surface, he has combined control, variation and smart execution to keep Gujarat Titans in check. His ability to read conditions and adapt lengths has made scoring difficult, even for well-set batters. It’s a performance that offers hope to bowlers in a batting-dominated format, showing that discipline and clarity can still tilt the balance in their favour.

IPL 2026 Live: Buttler left stunned

Jos Buttler is gone, and it’s a moment that has left everyone surprised. The England batter seemed to have timed Yuzvendra Chahal’s flighted delivery perfectly, only for Xavier Bartlett to produce a stunning jumping catch near the boundary. It looked destined to clear the fielder, but Bartlett judged it brilliantly and made it look effortless in the end. GT Live Score: Arshdeep returns as GT struggle to lift tempo

Arshdeep Singh is back into the attack, and the Gujarat Titans continue to find scoring tough despite a decent surface. Whether it’s disciplined bowling from Punjab Kings or a slight misreading of the conditions, GT haven’t been able to break free. Yuzvendra Chahal has been right in the contest but without reward so far, nearly dismissing Jos Buttler with a sharp return chance. PBKS vs GT Live: Jansen strikes rhythm with probing spell

Marco Jansen is right on the money here, delivering another excellent over and tightening the screws on Gujarat Titans. There’s an element of unpredictability in his bowling, making it difficult for the batters to line him up or anticipate what’s coming next. As the title says, it has all been Jos Buttler here who is trying to do the heavy lifting. Gill, on the other hand, is struggling to keep up the pace. Not sure if this is a technical or mental issue here. GT could have a long season if this continues to be the way it goes.

This is some fine bowling by Yuzuvendra Chahal. He can get quite a drift here. That is keeping the GT batters at bay. This has been the concern for GT's batting unit so far. Can they accelerate here is the big question.

IPL 2026 Live: Vijaykumar Vyshak struggles

Vijaykumar Vyshak hasn’t looked at his sharpest so far, but the Gujarat Titans haven’t fully capitalised either. While Jos Buttler has found a few big shots, Shubman Gill has struggled to convert his start into quick runs, slowing the overall tempo. The lack of consistent acceleration from both ends is beginning to show, especially on a surface that promises runs. Punjab Kings will feel they’ve managed to contain damage despite a few boundaries. For GT, the concern now is whether their top order can shift gears before the pressure begins to build.

STRATEGIC BREAK! This has been a fantastic start for the Titans. Despite losing Sudharsan early, Shubman Gill has ensured that the runs keep coming. He has played several delightful strokes already which has helped GT to crusie around 10s an over. And the biggest feature is how risk-free his shots have been. From the Kings' point of view, Marco Jansen has been the standout so far, conceding just 9 off his two overs with a wicket. The pitch is looking pretty good to bat on and the Gill-Buttler duo will look to sustain this run rate and increase it further with a strong partnership. As the field spreads, Punjab Kings would expect their trump card Yuzvendra Chahal to put on the brakes and make a big impact. Let's see when he gets introduced. For now, it will be Vijaykumar Vyshak to continue. 1-0-10-0 so far are his bowling figures.

IPL 2026 Live: Buttler showing signs of his best form

Jos Buttler is showing early signs of hitting top form, settling in with a composed approach rather than forcing the pace. The England batter looks focused on timing and placement, a worrying sign for opposition teams if he gets going. At the other end, Shubman Gill continues to keep the scoreboard ticking with fluent strokeplay, maintaining control of the innings. After a measured start, the Gujarat Titans now appear to be finding their rhythm, with both set batters looking comfortable as they build a solid platform in the powerplay.

GT Live Score: Gill shifts gears with fluent early boundaries

Shubman Gill has begun to find his rhythm, showcasing crisp strokeplay to get Gujarat Titans moving. The skipper opened up with a stylish drive past mid-on before following it with a lofted straight hit over the same region. He then targeted mid-wicket for a third boundary, signalling a shift in intent after a cautious start. Punjab Kings, however, opted for Xavier Bartlett over Marco Jansen in this phase, a move that stands out given Jansen’s pace and variation. With Gill settling in, GT could now look to accelerate further.

Gujarat Titans have made a steady start, picking up 9 runs off the opening over without taking many risks. There hasn’t been much movement on offer, prompting Arshdeep Singh to quickly switch to scrambled seam and adapt to the conditions. The captain of Gujarat Titans - Shubman Gill says that the wicket looks pretty good and points that the rain has been on and off over the last two days as well but still calls it a good wicket to bat on. Reflects that last year they had a pretty good season as they were the table toppers for most of the season but then lost in the knockouts and felt that there were a few areas to work on, one of which, fielding, was the prime one. Gill reckons this year, it is about adding that extra 5 percent in each department. On the combination, he informs that Glenn Phillips is set to make his debut for GT, along with Ashok Sharma. He says the four overseas players are Jos Buttler, Glenn Phillips, Rashid Khan and Kagiso Rabada. On Buttler and his recent struggles in the shortest format, Gill calls him a vastly experienced player and the kind of value he brings is always crucial. Hopes that Buttler will have a great year yet again with the bat.

The captain of Punjab Kings - Shreyas Iyer says that he personally believes that chasing gives a fair idea of how to go about the target. Adds that they have played a couple of practice games where totals were chased down easily, so that is a factor as well. Iyer mentions that they had a phenomenal last season but it is new beginning and the only thing he said to his players is to express themselves and the results will take care of themselves. Iyer shares that they should not think much about the past and have a positive mindset. He wants his team to play a good brand of cricket. Ends by saying that the four overseas players are Cooper Connolly, Marcus Stoinis, Xavier Bartlett and Marco Jansen.
