Hello and welcome to India Today's live coverage of the Indian Premier League 2026 season, Sunrisers Hyderabad are playing Delhi Capitals in the 31st match of the season, where they will look to sustain their momentum.
23:51 IST:
Onto the next one - Another night filled with batting carnage ends in Hyderabad, and the Sunrisers have now started to fire on all cylinders, with shades of that 2024 season visible as well. Next up, we move to Lucknow, where the Super Giants will be taking on the Rajasthan Royals in yet another crucial battle. That game will be played on Wednesday, 22 April and will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). However, as usual, you can join us a lot sooner for the build-up as well. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!23:53 IST:
POTM - Abhishek Sharma - Abhishek Sharma has been given the accolade for his sensational unbeaten knock of 135 off 68 balls and a couple of catches as well. Sharma says they had a plan to maximise the Powerplay, but the wicket was a bit slow, so they had to reassess and keep the match-ups in mind while trying to make the most of that phase. Abhishek calls it a special moment to score at this venue and adds that you never quite know the par score until the 20th over is done. He says he wanted to entertain the crowd and makes a special mention of the coaches and the captain for giving him the freedom to express himself. Sharma credits the environment created in this team in 2024 as a game-changer and says the aim has been to grow as a team. On his celebration, he says it is a show of love for the fans, who have supported them not just at the ground but even back at the hotel. Abhishek shares that it is a special moment with his parents present, while his sister, who is unwell, is missing, and he dedicates the innings to her. He says that since his Under-12 days, his father has been watching him closely and guiding him on how to play. He adds that it is an incredible feeling, with his father constantly observing him while he looks back for those instructions.23:55 IST:
All the credit goes to Abhishek - Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper, Ishan Kishan, says that looking at how Abhishek Sharma batted throughout the innings and the way Heinrich Klaasen finished things off, a lot of credit goes to them, as it was a wicket where the old ball was difficult to get away. Adds that they take it one match at a time and they have natural hitters in the team, but look to take 2-3 balls to assess things and play their natural game. On using Harsh Dubey late in the game, Kishan said he just tried to get that cushion, as it seemed like the spinners were a bit easier to get away, and he had already told Dubey that he would be bowling the difficult overs at the death, no matter what.23:39 IST:
... The Presentation ceremony ...23:48 IST:
SRH hit their mark with the bat - Earlier in the game, Axar Patel won yet another toss and opted to field. Sunrisers Hyderabad didn't mind it much as they do like batting first, and Abhishek Sharma came out all guns blazing. Travis Head didn't quite find his timing but still managed to get a few boundaries away as the openers piled on 97 quick runs for the first wicket. Delhi Capitals looked vulnerable with the ball, and the lapses in the field didn't help them either. Only Axar Patel managed to take a wicket as Abhishek Sharma went on to score a big, unbeaten ton as Heinrich Klaasen blitzed his way to an eighth consecutive score of 30 or more in the IPL, finishing with an unbeaten 37 off just 13 balls.23:40 IST:
Let's now hear from SRH's star bowler - Eshan Malinga says he is very happy with his performance and thanks his teammates for their support. Eshan mentions that he came in with the same plan as the last game, with reverse swing coming into play. Shares that he focused on staying calm, doing the basics right and executing his plans. Malinga says that he worked with Lasith Malinga over the last couple of months with the national side and learned a lot from him. On the promise shown by Sakib Hussain, he calls him a brilliant bowler with great potential and believes he will go a long way.23:55 IST:
Need to give credit where due - Delhi Capitals' skipper Axar Patel says they could have halted Abhishek Sharma’s charge had they taken the run-out chance and held on to that catch. Axar believes that even with good execution, when a batter scores big, you have to give credit, and that is the message he passed on to his bowlers. Patel opines that fielding is something within their control, and it is important to support the bowlers in the field, especially when things are not going their way. The DC skipper says they have not thought about any team changes and believes the side is doing well on both fronts. He adds that this can be treated as an off day on a surface like this and stresses the need to move on and forget it quickly.23:42 IST:
The Capitals look a bit unpolished - Delhi Capitals have blown hot and cold throughout the 2026 season so far, and a few frailties with the ball and up top with the bat are costing them games. They lost an early wicket and then forged a decent comeback via an 86-run stand between KL Rahul and Nitish Rana, with the latter notching up a quick half-century as well. Then came the slump, 107/1 became 107/4 in a flash, and it was a mountain too high to climb from there. Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs did add another fifty-plus stand, but with the pressure mounting, Delhi kept losing wickets and ended up falling short of the 200-run mark as well.23:41 IST:
Bowling attack coming to the fore - We have seen SRH chop and change their pacers this season, and once again today, we saw the addition of Dilshan Madushanka in place of Praful Hinge. However, over the last 3 games, the changes they are making in the bowling department seem to be working. Eshan Malinga has now transformed himself into SRH's lead pacer, and he had another stellar outing with a four-wicket haul. Madushanka too bowled well up top, and Sakib Hussain showed promise yet again, bowling in different phases of the game. The cherry on top was Harsh Dubey picking up 3 wickets in the final over and sealing a big win for the home side.23:35 IST:
A hat-trick of wins - Sunrisers Hyderabad win their third game on the bounce, and they are quickly rising up the table now with 4 wins from 7 games. As for the Delhi Capitals, their inconsistent run continues, and they now have 3 wins and 3 losses to their name in 6 matches as well.Score 195/9

... THE RUN CHASE ...21:34 IST:
Looking ahead - It will take some doing for the Delhi Capitals, who are yet to successfully chase a 200-plus target this season, having fallen short on the previous two occasions. A lot will depend on how they start, as that will go a long way on this steep chase. Stay tuned for the second essay.21:40 IST:
Klaasen applied the finishing touches - Abhishek brought up his second IPL hundred off 47 balls and, interestingly, as per on-air commentators, it came on the same strip here in Hyderabad. As the innings went on, a bit of fatigue seemed to set in, and the big hits dried up, but Heinrich Klaasen stepped up to ensure SRH finished on a high. As he often does, Axar Patel rotated his bowling options but with little success. Curiously, he persisted with the match-up of continuing with Nitish Rana against two left-handers, even after he had been taken for runs. 21:36 IST:
A strong start carried through - Early on, the SRH openers did not swing at everything and instead picked their battles with a calculated approach, with Abhishek Sharma being the dominant partner in the 97-run opening stand. In the previous game, they could not capitalise on a similar start and lost their way in the middle phase, but that was not the case tonight. Abhishek batted through and found support along the way. He also rode a bit of luck, with KL missing a run-out chance when he tried to sneak in a second after reaching his fifty, and then being dropped on 86 by Nitish Rana.21:24 IST:
SRH's man of the moment - Abhishek Sharma puts on the Orange Cap, not the Sunrisers one but the one for the leading run-getter. He says that it is always special to perform in front of the Orange Army and he loves playing at this ground. Reckons that the bowlers well at the death and he hasn't practised much death hitting but kudos to Heinrich Klaasen for the way he played and mentions that his (Sharma's) mindset at the death was that if a boundary isn't coming, he at least gets a single and gives the strike to Klaasen. Adds that the coaching staff wanted him to bat for the full 20 overs, and reckons that this is probably the first time he's done it. On the par score, Sharma jokes that that's what they are trying to figure out but feels that anything over 220-230 is always a solid total on the board.21:18 IST:
Tuesday treat for the Orange Army - If it was Tilak Varma last night, it was Abhishek Sharma who set the stage alight. SRH openers dominate the Powerplay - Sunrisers Hyderabad have seized complete control early on, racing to a formidable 67 for no loss at the end of the first six overs. The opening duo of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma have been sensational so far. While Abhishek is getting full value for his crisp strokeplay, Head has been striking the ball beautifully despite finding the fielders on a few well-timed shots. With the run rate soaring, Delhi Capitals find themselves under immense pressure and Axar Patel may be forced to introduce Kuldeep Yadav immediately or even himself, as DC desperately need their premier wicket-taker to break this partnership before the game slips away entirely. DC have been punished for being greedy
Delhi Capitals have been punished for being greedy in the powerplay.
Nitish Rana went for 6 runs in his first over (2nd of the match).
Delhi thought that they could be greedy and sneak one more in. And they have paid the price.

Why has Mukesh gone short of length?
It is odd that after bowling a 9-run over, Mukesh has gone straight to the short of the length balls.
Both of the SRH openers do not have a short ball issue, at least one that we know of. This has meant that Mukesh has been smacked for 2 boundaries in the third over of this powerplay.

DC try the off spin ploy against SRH openers
Delhi Capitals tried their luck with the off spin ploy in the second over, bowling part-timer Nitish Rana.

Decent start from SunRisers Hyderabad against Mukesh Kumar in the first over.

Words from the DC camp - Lungi Ngidi says that he would rate himself at a solid seven or seven-and-a-half so far this season. Ngidi adds that while he is generally happy with the results, there are a few games where he could have been sharper. Ngidi finds the IPL challenging due to the intense heat and the high-scoring nature of the wickets. Lungi acknowledges the interesting tactical battle that arises when opponents are also familiar training partners. Lungi concludes by saying that he is focused on carrying that momentum into tonight's match, where his primary goal is to dismiss Heinrich Klaasen in particular.19:11 IST:
A quick chat with SRH's star all-rounder - Nitish Kumar Reddy says that he would like to finish the games well, as he was getting good starts but wasn't able to end well and is just trying to focus on finishing the game. The captain of the Delhi Capitals - Axar Patel says that the luck during the toss is with them, but he would have been happier if they had won all the games as well. On playing his 100th IPL game for DC, he says that he wasn't aware of that milestone and hopes that the game goes their way. Axar mentions that the team balance depends on the situation, and managing such a big squad isn't easy, but the players also know that they try to select the best XI.
