Virat Kohli explains why helping IPL's new stars like Prince Yadav is worth it
Virat Kohli said he is happy to advise young stars like Prince Yadav during the IPL, even if it comes at the cost of his own wicket during matches. Kohli revealed how he told Prince Yadav on how to dismiss him.
Virat Kohli is happy to be a guide to the up-and-coming stars of the IPL, even if it comes at the cost of his wicket. The RCB star revealed that it was his advice that helped Prince Yadav dismiss him for a duck during the clash against LSG at the Ekana stadium.
Prince delivered a sensational delivery that breached Kohli's defence and sent his off stump for a walk. After the match was done, the LSG pacer revealed that it was the lessons from Kohli that helped him get the wicket.
Speaking on the RCB podcast, Kohli said that he was happy to keep IPL rivalries aside and help young stars as it will help Indian cricket in the long run.
“Yeah, he bowled a great ball to me, and I told him to bowl in those areas. It is fine,” said Kohli.
“I went and played Vijay Hazare [Trophy]. I didn’t know Prince at all. He is such a sweet guy, and he is so funny. I got very close to him, and he opened up very nicely to me. I was telling him, even through those Vijay Hazare Trophy games what to do and where to bowl."
"You have to share experience. You are not going to be here forever. If people have the opportunity to learn and get better in their careers, eventually they play for India and the standard of cricket remains high,” he added.
'WANT PLAYERS TO BE AT THEIR BEST'
Kohli also recalled how he helped former RCB pacer and current GT star Mohammed Siraj by sharing his observations ahead of the clash between both teams.
Kohli said that he wants to face players who are at the top of their game and wants help others whenever possible.
“Before playing Gujarat [Titans] in Bengaluru, I spoke to Siraj on the boundary. I told him my observations—how I saw him run in and how it was different from before. He spoke to me about rhythm. And we are playing them two days later... I should be able to play his best version. I want him to be at his best so I can compete with him. I am ready for everyone’s best version. If someone is struggling, it is an opportunity for me to help. That is how I look at it,” Kohli explained.
Kohli will be next in action during the PBKS vs RCB clash on Sunday, May 17.
