Rishabh Pant makes his own plans: Batting coach praises India star's Leeds hundred

India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said Rishabh Pant's stroke-filled 134 was different from his typically aggressive knocks, as the wicketkeeper showed more restraint and control during his innings. Kotak also admitted that India could not capitalise on their strong position and fell short of the first-innings total they had targeted in the opening Test against England.

Pant struck 12 fours and six sixes in his 178-ball effort to become the third Indian centurion of the innings, but the visitors collapsed from 430 for 3 to 471 all out on Day 2 at Headingley.

"Rishabh Pant is someone who makes his own plans. He decides (the way) and (then) he bats. This innings was a little different than you would see him normally but honestly that is all his plans," Kotak told the media after the end of the day's play.

"The way he wanted to approach it and when he wanted to attack, he did (and just) because he plays aggressive (cricket) does not mean he cannot play defensive," Kotak said.
