If you are someone whose work involves a lot of writing or transcription, Google has released an AI-based tool that could make your work easier. The newly rolled-out Google AI Edge Eloquent app is free to download and also works offline. What makes this app stand out is that it can automatically filter out filler words like “um” and “ah” and polish the text. Additionally, it provides several options to transform the text.

The app is based on Google’s Gemma-based automatic speech recognition (ASR) models. While dictating, users can see the live transcription of their speech on their phone. The app filters and polishes the text once the user pauses speaking. Users also get options to transform their text, such as “Key points,” “Formal,” “Short,” and “Long.”

For those who prefer on-device processing, the cloud mode can be turned off. The app can also access a user’s Gmail account for certain keywords, names, and jargon. Users can also add their own custom words to the list.

Furthermore, the app saves transcription session history, including words dictated in the last session, words-per-minute speed, and the total number of words spoken. Users can also search through this history if they need information later.

Currently available on iOS but Android app on cards

The app is currently available only on iOS. However, its description on the App Store suggests that the company may also launch an Android version. On Android, it could be set up as the user’s default keyboard for system-wide access across any text field.

“Google AI Edge Eloquent is an advanced dictation app engineered to bridge the gap between natural speech and professional, ready-to-use text. Unlike standard dictation software that transcribes stumbles and filler words verbatim, Eloquent utilizes AI to capture your intended meaning. It automatically edits out ‘ums,’ ‘uhs,’ and mid-sentence self-corrections, outputting clean, accurate prose,” the company’s App Store description reads.

Meanwhile, Google has also launched its latest open AI model called Gemma 4. Unlike most frontier models such as Gemini or OpenAI’s GPT 5.4, Gemma 4 is an open-source model that can run locally on a wide range of devices, including Android smartphones.

According to the company, Gemma 4 gives developers the freedom of open models while offering functionality similar to proprietary models.
