Oura unveiled the fifth generation of Ring globally, expanding its smart ring lineup. The new smart ring comes a year and a half after the launch of the Ring 4 and seven months after the Ring 4 Ceramic. The company describes it as the world’s smallest smart ring, which is 40 per cent smaller in size than its predecessor. It comes with upgraded sensing capabilities, improved battery life, and several new software-driven health features.

The company is also introducing software updates such as blood pressure signals, live activity tracking, nighttime breathing analysis, and AI-powered on-demand care. However, these features are not meant to be confined to Ring 5 only, will also roll out to Oura Ring Gen3 and later models.

Oura Ring 5 specs and features

According to Oura, the Ring 5 has been redesigned from the ground up with changes to its mechanical, electrical, optical, sensing, and battery architecture. The company says the ring is around 30 per cent thinner and roughly two millimetres narrower than the previous generation.

The slimmer design is aimed at making smart rings feel more like traditional jewellery, especially for users who previously found such wearables bulky.

In a single change, the Ring 5 offers up to six to nine days of battery life, an improvement over the five to eight days offered by the Ring 4. Oura also says it has reengineered the sensors for improved skin contact and added more powerful LEDs for better accuracy across different skin tones and finger sizes.

Among the biggest additions is “Health Radar,” a background monitoring system designed to track important biometric signals. The feature debuts with Blood Pressure Signals and Nighttime Breathing monitoring. Blood Pressure Signals tracks overnight cardiovascular patterns and alerts users if the data suggests signs of rising blood pressure. Users can also manually add blood pressure readings from external cuffs into the Oura app.

The Nighttime Breathing feature provides a 30-day rolling overview of sleep-related breathing patterns and disturbances.

Oura is also partnering with Counsel Health to offer AI-assisted medical guidance and access to licensed physicians directly through the app in the US. The service will require an extra fee. So now, in addition to Oura’s monthly subscription plan, users need to pay another layer of fee.

On the fitness side, the app now supports live activity tracking, so you can keep an eye on your pace, distance, and heart rate in real time during a workout. Automatic activity detection has also gotten smarter, with better recognition for low-motion workouts like Pilates that were previously easy to miss.

Additionally, the app is gaining GLP-1 medication insights and a new Brain Health Study aimed at exploring the connection between physiological trends and cognitive performance.
