Following an India Today report, Elon Musk's social media platform X has admitted to lapses concerning its AI tool, Grok, which was used to generate obscene imagery of women. This special report details the action taken by X after receiving directives from the Indian government, which were prompted by complaints from figures like Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, who wrote to IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The platform has since blocked approximately 3,500 pieces of content and deleted over 600 accounts. However, the report questions the efficacy of these measures, quoting the sentiment that 'just deleting those accounts, etc, doesn't really solve any purpose, because you can delete 10, another 100 will sprout out'. The discussion also covers international reactions, noting that countries like Indonesia and Malaysia are considering banning the AI platform, and highlights that X has now restricted image generation to paying subscribers, a move deemed insufficient by the programme's analysts.
Following Indonesia's lead, Malaysia has now suspended access to Elon Musk's AI chatbot, Grok, due to concerns over AI-generated pornographic content. India Today's Shivani Sharma reports that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has ordered an immediate temporary restriction on the platform. The move comes after global criticism of Grok's image creation feature, which reportedly allowed users to create sexualized images of women and children. According to Sharma, the Malaysian regulator found the platform's safeguards to be inadequate. She notes that access will only be restored 'after the required changes are verified'. This action highlights the growing international concern among nations from Europe to Asia regarding the content generated by new AI tools and the push for stronger platform accountability.

In its official submission, X stated it would take 'strict action against illegal content and confirmed that such material would be removed and accounts involved would be permanently suspended'. Following the centre's directives, the platform has blocked around 3,500 pieces of content and deleted over 600 accounts. Officials added that X has committed to ensuring that obscene imagery will not be allowed on the platform in the future. The government had found X's initial response inadequate, stressing that social media companies must take responsibility for the content they host.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, who raised the issue with IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, stated, 'It is extremely scary that we are living in times where we, as a woman... live in the constant danger of our photographs being misused.' In a significant move to curb digital abuse, the IT Ministry has issued a stern notice to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) regarding the misuse of its Grok AI service. India Today Journalist Aishwarya Paliwal reports that the ministry has flagged the creation and circulation of obscene, deepfake images of women using the AI tool.
