A man thought he was ordering something fancy off a pub menu in Bengaluru, only to be served what looked suspiciously like a childhood snack with a glow-up.

The post, shared on X by Arunraj Pattar, showed his experience at a city pub where he ordered a dish called “Chilli-Dusted Goldfingers.” On paper, it sounded like one of those upscale, creatively named bar bites.

But what arrived at the table told a very different story.

In the images shared along with the post, the dish appeared to be a bowl of puffed, cylindrical fryums, the kind everal people remember eating as kids, light, airy, and lightly dusted with masala. There’s no elaborate plating or garnish, just a simple serving that felt more nostalgic than premium.

His caption was enough to show how disappointed and amused he was at the same time: “First in my bloodline to pay 150rs for this,” he wrote, poking fun at the price tag attached.

The contrast between the menu description and the actual dish became the real deal. The menu listed it as a refined bar snack, but the reality, crispy fryums with seasoning that people grew up eating for cheaper during their childhood left the internet amused.

In the comments section, however, social media users leaned further into the joke.

“I am sure they have a unique confusing name, like flame-tossed special masala earth nuts for roasted peanuts which are also priced at 500,” one user wrote, calling out the trend of rebranding simple snacks.

Another added, “This cost Rs 5-10 when we were kids, what is this daylight robbery?” tapping into the shared nostalgia and mild disbelief around the pricing.

Several users also discussed how the thing that stood out wasn’t just the dish, but how easily a familiar snack could be repackaged into something that sounded far more gourmet than it really was.
