On a dusty stretch of highway near Nagpur, an Indian man stumbled upon a sight that looked straight out of a travel movie: two Australian tourists cruising through India, not in a luxury campervan or motorcycle, but in a humble auto-rickshaw.

Munnavar Khan shared the wholesome encounter on his Instagram account, where he documented meeting the two foreigners during their unusual cross-country adventure.

In the clip, Khan was first seen filming an auto-rickshaw driving along the highway before zooming in on the smiling passengers inside, two Australian tourists happily waving back at him from the three-wheeler.

As he approached them, the tourists explained that they were travelling across India entirely in the auto-rickshaw and were currently on a journey stretching from Kochi all the way to Jaisalmer.

The video then transitioned to the trio standing outside the auto-rickshaw on the roadside, chatting and introducing themselves. The two travellers revealed that they were both from Perth and warmly shook hands with Khan while smiling for the camera.

The brightly decorated auto-rickshaw, loaded with luggage and travel essentials, appeared to have become both their transport and temporary home as they continued their unconventional Indian road trip.

Sharing the clip online, Khan captioned the video, “Met two India lovers travelling in an auto-rickshaw from Kochi to Jaisalmer on the Nagpur highway.”

Several commenters joked that the Australians had discovered the ultimate “low-budget India trip,” while others said the video perfectly captured the joy of slow travel and experiencing a country beyond luxury tourism.

Many users also admired the tourists’ willingness to explore India in such an unconventional way, saying moments like these prove that travel is often more about the experience and the people than comfort or expensive plans.

Others simply said the clip felt like a reminder to “enjoy life a little more freely,” with many praising the carefree energy and smiles shared during the roadside interaction.
