Live Results

Nattika (Sc) Assembly Constituency

Nattika Assembly Constituency is situated in the Thrissur district of Kerala and is the 68th of the 140 seats in the Kerala Legislative Assembly. It is a reserved legislative assembly constituency belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC), and it is part  of the Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency.

Geography and Administrative Profile

Nattika, which includes both urban and rural wards, is located in the Thrissur district of central Kerala. It includes  Anthikkad, Avinissery, Chazhoor, Cherpu, Paralam and Thanniyam Panchayats in Thrissur Taluk; Nattika, Valappad and Talikkulam Panchayats in Chavakkad Taluk.

Voter participation and the electorate

The Nattika seat has roughly  210708 registered voters for the 2021 Assembly election, according to the Election Commission of India. The constituency regularly maintained high voter turnout, which in the 2021 Assembly election was about 72.88%.

History of Politics and Representation

With representation mostly shifting between the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Communist Party of India (CPI), with sporadic fierce competition from other parties, Nattika has a long history of political involvement. The CPI has become well-known in the constituency in recent decades. In 2011 and 2016, Geetha Gopi of the CPI won the seat, strengthening the base of support for the Left Democratic Front (LDF).

Kerala Assembly Election Results for 2021

C. C. Mukundan of the Communist Party of India (CPI) was elected as the MLA from Nattika in the 2021 Kerala Legislative Assembly election. He received 72,930 votes, or around 47.49% of the vote. 44,499 votes were in favour of Adv. Sunil Laloor (INC, UDF) and 33,716 votes for Lojanan Ambatt (BJP, NDA). Other independent candidates shared minor vote shares. Mukundan won by a huge margin of 28,431 votes, or about 18.6% of the total votes cast, highlighting the overwhelming support of voters for the CPI and the LDF coalition. Even though the Indian National Congress and the BJP continued to hold sizable vote shares, the outcome confirmed the CPI's organisational depth and appeal to local voters.

Social and Economic Features

The constituency's economic activity is varied. In rural areas, growing vegetables, coconuts, and paddy are the main sources of income. Urbanised areas, especially those with market centres, support retail establishments, service-oriented enterprises, and commercial activity. A sizable portion of household incomes, as in many Kerala constituencies, originates from families whose members work outside the state, particularly in Gulf nations.

Voter Behaviour and Electoral Dynamics

Through welfare narratives and local governance participation, the CPI's ongoing presence and organisational reach are crucial in galvanising support at the grassroots level. The Indian National Congress and its supporters continue to be significant opponents, especially in cases where local leadership shares concerns with the community. Although it hasn't yet won the seat, the BJP has grown in recent cycles, gaining significant vote shares and mirroring larger national patterns of growing voter bases in coastal and urban Kerala.
