Regime of infiltrators in Haryana: Rahul Gandhi renews 'vote theft' attack on BJP
Rahul Gandhi renewed his 'vote theft' attack on BJP, claiming electoral manipulations helped the party win seats and even governments.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday renewed his allegations of "vote theft", claiming that not just seats, but at times even entire governments are "stolen" through electoral malpractice. Calling the Haryana government, where the BJP stormed to power in 2024 despite Congress hopes, a regime of infiltrators, Gandhi accused the BJP of securing power through manipulations.
"Seats are sometimes stolen through vote theft, sometimes entire governments," he wrote in a social media post, two days after the BJP came to power in West Bengal https://indiatoday.tech/elections/assembly/story/amit-shah-west-bengal-election-strategy-bjp-victory-over-tmc-elections-2906851-2026-05-05and Assam with brute majorities, where the Opposition alleges electoral malpractice. Though the Congress leader did not refer to any of these recent polls in his post, he had earlier said that Assam and Bengal were clear cases of the election being stolen.
"Out of the 240 BJP MPs in the Lok Sabha, roughly every sixth MP has won through vote theft. It's not hard to identify them – should we call them 'infiltrators' in BJP's own language? And Haryana? There, the entire government is 'infiltrator'," Gandi said.
He also alleged that institutions involved in handling voter lists and the electoral process were being controlled by the ruling dispensation at the Centre.
"The institutions they keep in their pockets, the ones that tamper with voter lists and the electoral process – those themselves are 'remote controlled'," the Congress MP alleged.
Further attacking the BJP, he asserted that the saffron party fears "the truth", claiming that if fair elections were held, the party "couldn't win even 140 seats".
Commenting on the Assembly election results on Monday, Gandhi alleged that Assam and Bengal were clear examples of elections being "stolen".
"Assam and Bengal are clear cases of the election being stolen by the BJP with the support of the EC. We agree with Mamata ji. More than 100 seats were stolen in Bengal," he said.
The Congress leader further alleged that similar patterns were witnessed in Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
In West Bengal, the Congress won only two seats, while its INDIA bloc ally, the Trinamool Congress, which contested separately, was voted out of power by the BJP. The saffron party secured 207 of the 294 Assembly seats.
In Assam too, the BJP retained power with 82 seats, while the Congress managed to win only 19. Its ally Raijor Dal secured two seats.
