Vijay meets Governor, stakes claim to form government after securing majority
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay met Tamil Nadu Governor on Friday evening and staked a claim to form government after securing the support of 118 MLAs.
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay has staked a claim to form the government in Tamil Nadu, submitting a letter of support from 118 legislators to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Lok Bhavan. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Saturday at the Nehru Stadium in Chennai. This political shift follows the TVK securing 108 seats in the 2026 Assembly elections, ending the state's long-standing Dravidian duopoly. The new administration is backed by unconditional outside support from the Congress, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and Left parties, including the CPI and CPIM. While the Left parties will not join the state cabinet, their support ensures the required numbers for the TVK-led administration. The development comes after the CPIM revealed pressure from the DMK to support an AIADMK government. National Congress leaders are expected to attend the ceremony as the new government prepares to address regional issues and navigate relationships with the central government.
