Will seek CBI probe if TVK makes AMMK's rebel MLA a minister: TTV Dhinakaran

TTV Dhinakaran's latest salvo against the TVK government comes days after he sacked S Kamaraj, the lone AMMK MLA representing Mannargudi, for voting in support of CM Vijay during the confidence motion.

AMMK chief TTV Dhinakaran on Sunday intensified his attack on Chief Minister Vijay-led TVK, warning that he would demand a CBI probe into alleged horse-trading if the lone AMMK MLA is made a minister.

His latest salvo against the TVK government comes days after he sacked S Kamaraj, the lone AMMK MLA representing Mannargudi, for voting in support of CM Vijay during the confidence motion.

Kamaraj’s action came amid Dhinakaran’s allegation that the TVK had indulged in horse-trading to secure his vote. In the recently concluded election, the TVK won 108 seats, 10 short of the majority mark, but managed to rally smaller parties to cross the halfway mark.

He accused the party of using a “forged” support letter and an allegedly AI-generated video to claim Kamaraj’s backing.

“You (TVK) conducted negotiations with our MLA. You promised him something and brought him over. If this isn’t horse-trading, then what is?” he questioned.

'TVK GOVERNMENT SHORT-LIVED’

Turning his focus to the TVK government, Dhinakaran claimed that Vijay would not be able to sustain the administration for more than six months.

“The life of this government is swaying. It is definitely a bad time for the party,” he asserted.

He argued that the VCK and the Left, with two and four legislators respectively, would not be able to support the government beyond six months due to the ever-changing political scenario in the state, though he did not elaborate further.

Following its victory in the floor test, the TVK government is expected to remain stable at least until November. Even the DMK has indicated that it will not take any action to destabilise the government for at least six months.

'AIADMK REBELS FACE DISQUALIFICATION'

Weighing in on the ongoing crisis in the AIADMK, Dhinakaran said the rebel MLAs do not have the numbers required to escape the anti-defection law. Dhinakaran is an ally of the E Palaniswany-led faction of the AIADMK.

The AIADMK has 47 MLAs, with the rebel faction led by CV Shanmugam and SP Velumani enjoying the support of 25 MLAs. However, they would need the backing of 32 MLAs to avoid disqualification.

“Supporting the TVK government in the name of reviving Amma’s government will definitely affect the rebels and the cadres supporting them,” he said.

He also argued that the rebel MLAs acted hastily, risking the future of the united party, which has suffered its fourth consecutive loss since Jayalalithaa's death in December 2016.
