TVK

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is a fast-rising regional political party in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, founded on February 2, 2024 by actor-turned-politician Vijay.

Headquartered in Panaiyur, Chennai, the party positions itself around a people-centric political vision that stresses inclusivity, welfare, and grassroots engagement.

TVK’s political identity is closely tied to its name. Tamilagam reflects the cultural and historical homeland of Tamils, Vettri signifies victory and fulfillment, and Kazhagam denotes an organised collective, symbolically a training ground for future leadership. Together, the name projects a movement rooted in Tamil identity while aspiring for broad social progress.

The party received its election symbol, the ‘whistle’, from the Election Commission in January 2026, for its first electoral test. In the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, TVK made a striking debut, winning 108 seats. Though it fell short of a simple majority by 10 seats, the result marked one of the most significant first-time performances by a regional party in the state’s recent political history.

TVK’s ideological plank blends social justice, secularism, and equality, with a strong emphasis on eliminating divisions based on caste, religion, or gender. Its leadership frames the party not just as a political outfit, but as a broader movement aimed at reshaping governance through public participation and accountability.
