Lockdown to continue in Bengal till August 31, festival days exempted

West Bengal Chief Minister on Tuesday announced the extension of complete lockdown in coronavirus containment zones in the state till August 31. The chief minister also said that the state will continue to go under a complete lockdown twice a week.

Announcing the dates for the state-wide weekly lockdown till August 31, the CM said that the state government has exempted Eid-ul-Adha or Bakra Eid and Independence Day from restrictions, but expects cooperation from people.

"We will not do any lockdown this week because of Bakra Eid, a religious festival. We want the minorities to cooperate and avoid any gatherings. I request them all to celebrate indoors," Mamata Banerjee said.
