Imran Khan talks about co-parenting, calls time with child a privilege
Imran Khan said parenting is a privilege, not a duty, calling the time he spends with his child a source of joy. He also emphasised co-parenting and emotional security, stressing that children thrive when both parents share responsibility.
Actor Imran Khan described parenting as a privilege rather than a duty. He said the time he spends with his child is something he values for himself, rooted in joy, love and connection rather than obligation.
He spoke about this during a conversation with Parineeti Chopra on her podcast Mom Talks, where the two discussed parenting, co-parenting, and evolving family dynamics.
“I did not view it as my duty; I always saw it as my privilege. The time I spent with my child is something I wanted for myself. It’s not about fulfilling a role but about experiencing joy, love, and connection", he further added.
The actor also emphasised that parenting should not be viewed through a gendered lens. He noted that raising a child is a shared responsibility and should be equally embraced by both parents, helping ease the pressure often placed on mothers.
Reflecting on co-parenting, Imran said that while family structures may change over time, a child’s emotional security must remain constant. He explained that children thrive in environments where they feel safe, supported, and reassured by their parents.
He further highlighted the importance of a father’s active involvement in daily caregiving, adding that it strengthens the parent-child bond and contributes to the overall well-being of the family. Imran also pointed out that children learn by observing their parents, making it essential to model healthy relationships and respectful communication.
Imran Khan got married to Avantika Malik in 2011. The couple separated in 2019 after eight years of marriage. They share a daughter, Imara Malik Khan, born in 2014.
