Actors Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt have opened up about the possibility of The Devil Wears Prada 3. While expressing interest in returning for a third instalment, the cast mentioned two crucial conditions.

In an interview with People, the trio, when asked what it would take for the trio to return after taking 20 years to reunite for a sequel, Streep, 76, replied immediately: "The script."

Blunt, 43, agreed, saying, "A good script. It's all about the script," while Hathaway, 43, added that "everybody has to say yes". Blunt said it would also need "the core four" — the three actors and Stanley Tucci, who is married to Blunt's sister, Felicity Blunt. Streep then joked: "They have to be alive."

In The Devil Wears Prada 2, Streep returns as editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly of Runway magazine, reuniting with Hathaway’s Andy Sachs, who has stepped into the role of the magazine’s features editor. The plot follows the pair as they attempt to secure advertising investment from Priestly's former assistant Emily Charlton, portrayed by Blunt, who has risen to head Dior's U.S. operations. The movie is currently playing in theatres.

In an interview with People, the three stars also shared their thoughts on returning to their roles after nearly two decades. Hathaway mentioned that stepping back into the role of Andy led her to reflect on the significant personal growth and changes in her life since the production of the original film.

The actor said, "The thing that struck me was that when we made the first one, I was just a 22-year-old mess."

"I mean, I'm in such a different phase of my life. I'm really lucky. I found someone that I love so much (husband Adam Shulman). We've been married for 17 years. We've got two kids. I just feel like my life is in a much more complete and whole place. I felt so lost when I was 22, which really worked for the character," she added.

Streep described the experience of revisiting her role as "kind of easy," while mentioning that she believes "you keep these characters." The actor added, "I liked discovering (Miranda) again."

Blunt highlighted that an actor becomes deeply connected to their character, noting that she thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to step back into the role of the eccentric personality. She expressed her delight in returning to the character, describing the experience of revisiting her as a great deal of fun.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 reunites the original film's lead cast with director David Frankel and writer Aline Brosh McKenna. Along with the returning stars, new actors in the cast include Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux and Lucy Liu.
