Virat Kohli has had a stellar year in 2017 and at the ICC Awards in Dubai on Thursday, his efforts were felicated. He was announced the ICC Cricketer of the Year, ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year. He was adjudged the Captain of both ICC Test and ODI Teams.
Kohli finished 2017 with a staggering 2818 international runs across international formats. The India captain scored 1059 runs in 10 Tests, 1460 runs in 26 ODIs and 299 runs in 10 T20 Internationals.
The 29-year-old hammered 11 hundreds including three double centuries (one vs Bangladesh and two vs Sri Lanka).
Kohli, in a special video message for the ICC, said it was an honour to win the ICC awards, especially the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for Cricketer of the Year since he had already on the ODI Cricketer of the Year in 2012.
But the new year hasn't begun well for the 29-year-old with India suffering humiliating losses in the first two Tests against South Africa in Cape Town and Centurion.
Kohli's outburst at the press conference following India's 135-run defeat in the second Test also shocked the world. Asked some uncomfortable questions on team selection and India's inability to execute their plans on a sub-continental pitch at the SuperSport Park, Kohli was irked and annoyed.
Sample this conversation between Kohli and a few journalists at the media interaction Wednesday evening, not long after India had lost the three-Test series to South Africa 2-0.
"What is the best 11?" snapped Kohli when asked if India played the best combination in "sub-continental" conditions at Centurion. "If we had won this, was this the best 11? We don't decide the 11 according to results. You are telling me that you could have played the best 11. You tell me the best 11 and we will play that," the Delhi dasher said.
