Joint statement on India-US trade deal in 4–5 days: Piyush Goyal, PM to visit Malaysia on Feb 7-8

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Thursday that India and the US are expected to finalise and sign a joint statement on the first tranche of the bilateral trade agreement within 4-5 days, following which tariffs imposed by America will come down to 18 per cent. The minister outlined a phased approach where US tariffs on Indian goods are expected to drop from 50% to 18% by the end of March 2025. The report also covered India's firm stance on energy security and oil imports from Russia and Venezuela, emphasising that national interest remains the supreme priority. Additionally, the broadcast touched upon the expiry of the New START treaty between the US and Russia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to Malaysia, and the surfacing of Deepak Chopra's name in the latest Epstein documents.
