Delhi Capitals fans heaved a sigh of relief and celebrated after the team avoided the record for the lowest total in the history of the IPL. After being asked to bat first at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the Capitals were in danger of setting an embarrassing record against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in New Delhi.

At one stage, the Capitals were reeling at 13 for six, flirting with the lowest total in IPL history. In fact, when Josh Hazlewood dismissed Nitish Rana, DC were tottering at 8 for 6 in 3.5 overs. At that point, even 49 seemed a long way away. Back in 2017 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, RCB had set the dubious record after being bowled out for 49 in 9.4 overs against Kolkata Knight Riders.

The Capitals eventually went past 49 when Kyle Jamieson smashed Romario Shepherd for a six over the deep square-leg region, taking DC’s score to 53 for seven in 10.2 overs. Once DC avoided the unwanted record, fans at the venue erupted in loud cheers and celebration. Supporters on social media also rejoiced in relief that the record stayed with RCB and that DC would not top that unwanted list.

HOW RCB DOMINATED DELHI CAPITALS

RCB produced a ruthless bowling display to blow away DC for just 75 in 16.3 overs, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood leading the carnage. The tone was set right in the opening over when Bhuvneshwar castled debutant Sahil Parakh with a searing inswinging yorker.

From there, the collapse gathered pace rapidly as Hazlewood struck with his very first delivery, removing KL Rahul, before dismissing Sameer Rizvi off the next ball to leave DC reeling.

Bhuvneshwar was equally devastating, picking up three wickets in his opening spell, including Tristan Stubbs and Axar Patel, as Delhi crumbled early under pressure. The new-ball pair extracted movement, maintained relentless accuracy, and gave the batters no room to settle, resulting in the lowest powerplay total in IPL history.

Though Abishek Porel tried to resist with a fighting 30, the damage had already been done. Suyash Sharma and Krunal Pandya tightened the screws in the middle overs before Hazlewood returned to finish things off in style, claiming a four-wicket haul.

His pinpoint yorker to clean up Porel summed up a clinical performance, as RCB completely dominated DC in one of the most one-sided bowling efforts of the season.
