I'm over the moon excited about India, says Apple CEO Tim Cook
Apple CEO Tim Cook says he is "over the moon excited about India," calling it one of Apple's biggest growth opportunities. Rising middle-class demand, new stores, and strong product sales are driving Apple's push in the country.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has made it clear that India is becoming one of the company’s most important markets. Speaking after Apple announced its latest quarterly results, Cook said he is “over the moon excited about India,” highlighting the country’s fast-growing middle class, rising demand for Apple products, and the long-term opportunity ahead. His comments came as Apple reported strong growth across global markets, with India once again named among the standout performers. According to Cook, Apple recorded double-digit growth in nearly every emerging market it tracks, including India, during the March quarter.
Cook said Apple has seen strong momentum in India over the past few years. The company recently opened its sixth retail store in the country, a sign that Apple is continuing to invest heavily in the market.
“We were also thrilled to open the doors to our sixth store in India,” Cook said. “It has been wonderful to see how we’ve continued to grow in India in recent years.”
Apple has steadily expanded its presence in India through retail stores, local manufacturing, online sales, and a broader product lineup. While premium buyers remain important, the company now appears to be targeting a much wider audience.
Why Tim Cook is so excited about India
During a question from an analyst, Cook explained why India matters so much to Apple right now. He pointed out that India is the world’s second-largest smartphone market and the third-largest PC market, while Apple still holds only a modest share. That, according to Cook, leaves massive room for expansion.
"There are a lot of people moving into the middle class there, and we’ve got some great products for them both currently and coming," he said.
Cook also revealed that in categories like iPhone, Mac, iPad and Apple Watch, many Indian buyers are first-time Apple customers. That means Apple is not just selling upgrades, but bringing new users into its ecosystem.
One of the biggest reasons behind Apple’s growing reach in India is pricing strategy. While flagship devices remain expensive, Apple has started offering more entry-level options for users who earlier preferred Windows laptops or Android phones. A recent example is the MacBook Neo, Apple’s most affordable laptop so far. Launched in India at Rs 69,900, it gave buyers a lower-cost option compared to the MacBook Air, which usually starts near Rs 1 lakh without offers.
Apple CFO Kevan Parekh said Mac revenue rose to $8.4 billion, helped by recent launches including the MacBook Neo. He also noted that Apple saw double-digit Mac growth in several emerging markets, including India.
The same strategy is visible in iPhones. Every year, after a new iPhone lineup launches, older models receive price cuts. Combined with festive season discounts and bank offers from retailers such as Vijay Sales and others, older iPhones often become highly attractive to Indian buyers. This has helped previous models continue selling strongly during festive periods, especially around Diwali.
Apple also seeing enterprise demand in India
India is not only becoming a consumer market for Apple. Businesses are also adopting Macs in larger numbers. Parekh said Indian software company Freshworks deployed more than 5,000 MacBook Pro and MacBook Air devices to support AI development. That shows Apple is growing beyond personal buyers and into the enterprise segment as well.
Cook’s comments suggest Apple believes India could become one of its biggest future growth engines. With more stores, rising incomes, aggressive pricing on older products, and expanding local operations, Apple appears to be positioning itself for the long run. So, the Indian buyers can expect to see more stores, better offers, and possibly more products designed with this market in mind. If Cook is already “over the moon excited,” Apple fans in India may have plenty to watch in the months ahead. You can stay tuned to India Today Tech for all the updates.
