A Bengaluru couple has brought up the topic of urban living costs after revealing that despite spending over Rs 1.3 lakh every month, they still often feel financially stretched in the city.

The discussion began after the couple, both working in product management roles, shared a detailed breakdown of their monthly expenses online. What surprised many viewers was not extravagant luxury spending, but how ordinary day-to-day costs in Bengaluru quietly added up to an eye-watering figure.

The largest expense by far was rent. The couple said they pay Rs 56,000 every month for their apartment, a number that instantly sparked reactions online from users already frustrated with Bengaluru’s soaring housing costs.

But the spending did not stop there. Groceries, household essentials, internet bills, electricity, fuel, food deliveries and subscriptions steadily pushed the total higher. The couple also spoke about paying for domestic help and a cook because balancing household chores alongside demanding full-time jobs had become difficult.

By the end of the month, their regular living expenses reportedly touched nearly Rs 1.3 lakh without including vacations, luxury shopping or major one-time purchases.

What resonated online was the couple’s central point: that Bengaluru can make even well-earning professionals feel financially insecure because of how quickly money disappears into routine urban expenses.

The internet, however, remained divided.

Some users sympathised with the couple, arguing that rent, convenience services and lifestyle inflation have genuinely become overwhelming in India’s tech capital. Others felt the numbers reflected personal choices more than unavoidable expenses, pointing out that many people in Bengaluru live on far smaller budgets.

Still, the conversation struck a chord because it reflected a growing sentiment among young professionals living in metro cities, earning a good salary no longer guarantees peace of mind.
