Dharapuram Assembly Constituency

Dharapuram, Constituency no 106,  is a highly sensitive and socially balanced seat where SC consolidation, Kongu caste management, and water security together decide the outcome. This is not a one-bloc seat — mismanaging any one group can flip the result.

Margins are narrow and volatile.

It is primarily known as an ancient, historic town and a vital agricultural marketing hub. It is famous for its numerous old, historically significant temples, including the Agastheeswarar Temple and Kaadu Hanumantha Swamy Temple.

Political & Social Character:

Major voter blocs:

  • Scheduled Castes (SC) – numerically strong, decisive
  • Kongu Vellalar Gounders – economically influential
  • Small & marginal farmers
  • Agricultural labour households
  • Semi-urban traders & service workers
  • Women SHGs & welfare beneficiaries
  • SC turnout + balanced Kongu engagement = winning equation.

Geography & Connectivity:

  • Rural villages + Dharapuram town
  • Dry belts with irrigation dependency
  • Temple-linked town economy
  • Mixed settlement clusters
  • Water and dignity issues dominate rural voting.

Hotspots:

  • Agastheeswarar Temple
  • Kaadu Hanumantha Swamy Temple
  • SC-dominated village clusters
  • Kongu agrarian villages
  • Dry-belt hamlets
  • Dharapuram town wards
  • Canal & borewell-dependent areas
  • Each cluster votes on different anxieties, not one slogan.

Core Issues:

  • Drinking water scarcity
  • Irrigation & borewell recharge
  • Wage security (MGNREGA, farm labour)
  • Social dignity & access
  • Rural road connectivity
  • PHC & ambulance access

Voter Mood:

  • MLA must be physically present
  • Quick response during water & wage crises
  • Respectful engagement with SC leadership
  • Visible problem-solving, not speeches
  • Support during police / revenue issues
  • Symbolism without delivery backfires here.

Tamil Nadu Floor Test Highlights: Vijay sails through Tamil Nadu trust vote; 5 MLAs abstain

Tamil Nadu CM Floor Test Highlights: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay comfortably won the floor test on Wednesday, securing support from 144 MLAs after the DMK staged a walkout, bringing down the effective majority mark to 88 from 117. While 22 MLAs from the AIADMK camp led by Edappadi K Palaniswami voted against the government, 25 MLAs from the rebel CV Shanmugam faction backed Vijay. Four Pattali Makkal Katchi MLAs and one BJP legislator abstained from voting. Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government had been formed with support from the Congress, Left parties, VCK and IUML. An AMMK MLA had also extended support before being expelled from the party. The Assembly proceedings witnessed high drama as infighting within the AIADMK spilled into the open. Tensions escalated after the Speaker invited rebel AIADMK leader SP Velumani to speak, triggering protests from the EPS camp, which repeatedly called for unity within the party ahead of the trust vote. Tamil Nadu Government Formation Highlights: DMK congratulates Vijay on forming government in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Government Formation News Highlights: The uncertainty over government formation in Tamil Nadu has come to an end after the VCK extended unconditional support to the TVK. Moreover, the IUML also extended its support to the Vijay-led party. Earlier in the day, AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran challenged TVK’s claim of securing his party’s support, demanding the original letter allegedly submitted to the Governor. He said AMMK MLA S Kamraj denied authorising such support and accused TVK of relying on a photocopied document, with a police complaint already filed. Kamraj further dismissed a video released by Vijay-led TVK as AI-generated. Meanwhile, a TVK supporter allegedly attempted self-immolation demanding Vijay become Chief Minister, prompting BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan to urge Vijay to calm supporters. Simultaneously, AIADMK MLAs met Edappadi K Palaniswami in Chennai, while Congress legislators remained camped in Hyderabad amid continuing political uncertainty.
