Alia Bhatt is back in Cannes, and her first appearance this year is already serving major summer holiday fashion inspiration. She wore a rather special hand-painted dress as an ode to the French Riviera.

Alia Bhatt’s first look from the ongoing Cannes Film Festival is out, and she looks like a summer dream.
The actor was photographed at the Hotel Martinez on May 12 wearing an exquisite hand-painted gown featuring a scenic landscape of the French Riviera. Yup, she paid sartorial homage to the French Riviera, the glamorous Mediterranean coastline that hosts the Cannes Film Festival each year, where major fashion and film moments unfold.
Fashion stylist Rhea Kapoor brought together this look by collaborating with designer Yash Patil for the dress and Ahmedabad-based mural artist Basuri Chokshi.
The dress featured a corset-style bodice with delicate spaghetti straps and a sweetheart neckline, before flowing into a billowing skirt silhouette.
Of course, the finesse of the hand-painted detailing stood out, with washes of pastel green, blue, lavender, and hints of yellow resembling an Impressionist garden painting.
As for Alia, her makeup was minimal, complementing the easy-breezy appeal of the dress. Nude-pink lipstick, subtle shimmery eyeshadow and a hint of blush completed the look. She styled her hair in a side-parted bun and skipped heavy jewellery, opting instead for a few statement rings and dainty earrings.
Alia Bhatt, who made her Cannes Film Festival debut last year, is back at the French Riviera for this year’s edition of the event. The actor made a stylish appearance in the city in an all-black Carolina Herrera look, bringing capris back into focus.
For her Cannes arrival, Alia wore a structured blazer paired with fitted cropped trousers from the label’s Spring 2026 collection. She completed the monochrome outfit with accessories from Gucci, including the Jackie 1961 shoulder bag and round-frame sunglasses.
This year, she is set to attend the inaugural ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival on May 12 as India’s global ambassador for L'Oreal Paris. Much like the Met Gala, the prestigious international film festival is also expected to see strong representation from India.
Apart from Alia Bhatt, actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, a regular attendee at the festival, is also expected to walk the red carpet again.
The Cannes Film Festival is likely to witness a broad Indian presence this year, with actors, filmmakers, and producers from several industries expected to attend. Karan Johar, Tara Sutaria, Mouni Roy, and Ammy Virk are also expected to attend. Filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker is set to be part of the official Indian delegation in his role as the newly appointed director of the International Film Festival of India.
The film festival begins today, May 12, and will conclude on May 23.
