VD Satheesan

V. D. Satheesan has built his political career step by step, without much noise, but with steady growth. At 61, he is now one of the main faces of the Congress in Kerala and currently serves as the Leader of the Opposition.

Satheesan started out as a lawyer and was active in student politics from his early days. He entered the Assembly in 2001 from Paravur and has held the seat ever since, election after election. Over time, he has built a strong local base and a reputation for staying connected with people in his constituency.

In 2021, after the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) lost the Assembly election, Satheesan was chosen to lead the opposition. Since then, he has focused on strengthening the party on the ground and raising issues against the government inside and outside the Assembly. His style is simple and direct — not loud, but consistent.

Within the Congress and the UDF, Satheesan is now seen as a leading contender for the Chief Minister’s post if the UDF comes to power. His name has been backed by key leaders, reflecting his growing importance.

As Kerala heads into another election, Satheesan is not just leading the opposition. He is emerging as one of the central figures in the Congress’s attempt to return to power.

Vijay appoints personal astrologer as OSD; Kerala CM suspense continues; and more

The Tamil Nadu government faces political turbulence as Chief Minister Vijay appoints a personal astrologer as an Officer on Special Duty, drawing criticism over administrative credentials. Ahead of a crucial assembly floor test, thirty rebel AIADMK MLAs led by S.P. Velumani and C.V. Shanmugham have pledged support to the TVK-led government, officially severing ties with the BJP. During the session, Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin reiterated his controversial stance on Sanatana Dharma. Administratively, the state announced the closure of seven hundred liquor shops near schools and temples, alongside new bans on political hoardings and the creation of women's safety task forces. In Kerala, a leadership struggle for the Chief Minister post has emerged between K.C. Venugopal and V.D. Satheesan following the UDF election victory. Meanwhile, in Telangana, a POCSO case was filed against Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar's son, Bandi Sai Bhagirath. Shashi Tharoor Skips Congress Kerala Poll Meet To Attend Prime Minister's Event In Thiruvananthapuram

This news report examines the growing friction within the Congress party as Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor skipped a high-level Kerala election strategy meeting in Delhi. While sources indicate Tharoor 'obtained permission from the party high command to be absent' to attend a government program with the Prime Minister in his constituency, the move has fueled speculation of a 'mega split' in the Kerala unit. The bulletin highlights that this is not an isolated incident, noting previous instances where Tharoor's positions on the Emergency and legislative bills diverged from the official party line. Tensions reportedly escalated following a protocol breach at the Kochi Mahapanchayat, where Tharoor was allegedly ignored by the top brass. Despite these internal fault lines, the Congress leadership, including Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, continues to focus on the upcoming assembly elections, urging state leaders to maintain discipline and avoid public displays of infighting that could damage the United Democratic Front's (UDF) electoral prospects.
