A controversy has erupted in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, where members of the Hindu Raksha Dal have forcibly shut down non-vegetarian restaurants, including KFC and Nazir, in the Vasundhara area. The group is demanding a complete ban on the sale of meat during the holy month of Sawan, a period of pilgrimage for Kanwariyas. This action is being seen as an escalation, as the protests are now targeting eateries in residential marketplaces, not just those on the main Kanwar Yatra routes. The Uttar Pradesh government had previously ordered the closure of non-veg shops on the designated yatra paths. The opposition has criticized these actions, with parties like the SP and Congress stating that "eating is something which is related to the personal choice and you cannot press what food you will have to eat."
