Probe agency NIA has revealed that militant groups based in Myanmar and Bangladesh have entered into a conspiracy with a section of militant groups in India to carry out violent activities in Manipur and create a wedge between different communities. More than 160 people have been killed and several hundred injured since violence broke out on May 3, when a "Tribal Solidarity March" was organised in the hill districts of Manipur to protest against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.Meiteis account for about 53 per cent of the state's population and live mostly in the Imphal Valley. Tribals, including Nagas and Kukis, constitute 40 per cent and reside mostly in the hill districts.
