Triple talaq: A story of dowry and domestic violence

Triple Talaq, developed as a customary practice after the death of Prophet Mohammed, has no mention in the Holy Quran. It is rather a practice which has been historically deplored even within the religion.

But in an atmosphere of abject poverty and rampant violence against women in society, it has prevailed and the law so far has failed to curb it.

The five judge bench comprising of Chief Justice of India has reserved its judgement in the matter. At best, the final verdict of the top court will just show the path ahead.

Triple Talaq case will be a milestone not just for the Muslim Community but for the debate around personal laws.
