How Kardashian-Jenner played with the Met Gala 2026 theme 'Fashion is art'

Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner interpreted the Met Gala 2026 theme through distinct, art-led looks. Their outfits drew from pop art, illusion dressing and classical sculpture to show how fashion can behave like an object of art.

At the Met Gala this year, where fashion leaned decisively into the idea of art as object, Kris Jenner Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner had their respective ways of interpreting the theme.

Kim Kardashian’s look began, quite literally, in another era. Working with British pop artist Allen Jones, she wore a set of sculptural body plates originating from the late 1960s. The tangerine-toned fibreglass breastplate—repurposed from a cast made around 1967 or 1968—carried with it the weight of art history, but not in a static sense. The original full-length form was reworked into a shorter, more mobile bodysuit, allowing the piece to exist on the Met carpet rather than remain a relic of the studio.

The accompanying leather skirt, realised with London-based artisans Whitaker Malem, extended that conversation. The artist insisted on freshness, something re-engaged with, not simply retrieved.

Next in line was Kylie Jenner, who appeared in Schiaparelli. The upper half was a nude-toned, strapless bodysuit that sat close to the skin that created an illusion of barely-there. But below the waist, the narrative shifted. A voluminous skirt, embroidered with pale florals and botanical motifs, unfolded in cream and ivory, pooling outward with deliberate drama.

Styled with a diamond choker and softened by loose waves and bleached brows, the look played with perception.

Kendall Jenner, meanwhile, appeared in a custom GapStudio piece by Zac Posen, she referenced the Winged Victory of Samothrace, one of the most enduring sculptural forms in Western art. The gown followed a familiar Grecian language—draped, asymmetrical, gathered across one shoulder—but it was the execution that shifted it into the present.

Posen’s use of a classic Gap T-shirt as the base fabric reframed the entire look. What read as classical from afar was, in fact, built from the most ordinary of garments.

Kris, 70, also turned heads at the event. She wore a floor-length Dolce & Gabbana robe and tbh she looked snatched and nothing like her age.

Kris Jenner, Kim Kardashian, Kylie and Kendall Jenner could be called something of a veteran by now. Each year they know how to get the fashion police talking, in one way or the other.
