Kinathukadavu Assembly Election 2026
Kinathukadavu Assembly Constituency

Kinathukadavu, Constituency no 122, is a water-sensitive, agriculture-first Kongu seat where elections are decided by tank irrigation reliability, coconut & mixed-crop income confidence, and Kongu caste consolidation. Welfare helps at the margins, but farm economics and water governance dominate voter choices.

Margins are moderate and stable, with swings triggered mainly by water stress, crop price shocks, or neglect of tank systems.

The Ponmalai Velayuthaswamy (Murugan) Temple is a major pilgrimage site, with historical links to the 15th-century Saint Arunagirinathar.

Political & Social Character:

Dominant voter blocs:

  • Kongu Vellalar Gounders – numerically dominant & decisive
  • Coconut & mixed-crop farmers
  • Tank- and well-irrigated cultivators
  • SC agricultural labour settlements
  • Highway-linked traders & transport workers
  • Dairy & livestock households

Geography & Connectivity:

  • Tank-irrigated village clusters
  • Coconut-dominant agrarian belts
  • Dry interior pockets dependent on borewells
  • NH-linked market villages & service nodes
  • Fully rural settlement pattern

  • Coconut-growing core belts
  • SC labour settlement clusters
  • Highway-side trading villages
  • Dry-belt interior hamlets
  • Each cluster reacts strongly to tank desilting, borewell depth, power supply, and coconut price movements.

Core Issues:

  • Tank desilting & water storage capacity
  • Power supply for borewells
  • Coconut price stability & pest control
  • Rural road connectivity
  • Drinking water during summer
  • Government school & PHC quality

Voter Mood:

While 22 MLAs from the AIADMK camp led by Edappadi K Palaniswami voted against the government, 25 MLAs from the rebel CV Shanmugam faction backed Vijay. Four Pattali Makkal Katchi MLAs and one BJP legislator abstained from voting. Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government had been formed with support from the Congress, Left parties, VCK and IUML. An AMMK MLA had also extended support before being expelled from the party. The Assembly proceedings witnessed high drama as infighting within the AIADMK spilled into the open. Tensions escalated after the Speaker invited rebel AIADMK leader SP Velumani to speak, triggering protests from the EPS camp, which repeatedly called for unity within the party ahead of the trust vote. Tamil Nadu Government Formation Highlights: DMK congratulates Vijay on forming government in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Government Formation News Highlights: The uncertainty over government formation in Tamil Nadu has come to an end after the VCK extended unconditional support to the TVK. Moreover, the IUML also extended its support to the Vijay-led party. Earlier in the day, AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran challenged TVK’s claim of securing his party’s support, demanding the original letter allegedly submitted to the Governor. He said AMMK MLA S Kamraj denied authorising such support and accused TVK of relying on a photocopied document, with a police complaint already filed. Kamraj further dismissed a video released by Vijay-led TVK as AI-generated. Meanwhile, a TVK supporter allegedly attempted self-immolation demanding Vijay become Chief Minister, prompting BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan to urge Vijay to calm supporters. Simultaneously, AIADMK MLAs met Edappadi K Palaniswami in Chennai, while Congress legislators remained camped in Hyderabad amid continuing political uncertainty.
