Palacode Assembly Election 2026
Palacode Assembly Constituency

Palacode, Constituency number 57, is a rural–semi-urban constituency in Dharmapuri district, defined by canal- and tank-dependent agriculture, strong farmer networks, and a welfare-sensitive electorate. Electoral outcomes are shaped by irrigation assurance, farm income stability, caste alignment, and scheme delivery, making it a relationship-driven seat.
Unlike industrial Hosur or urbanizing Krishnagiri, politics here remains rooted in land, water, and welfare access.

Political & Social Character:

The electorate includes BC and MBC agrarian communities, SC village clusters, small and medium farmers, agricultural labourers, and women voters dependent on welfare.
Key opinion shapers are panchayat leaders, caste elders, cooperative and milk society heads, SHG coordinators, teachers, and VAOs.
Voting behaviour is caste-aligned, welfare-driven, and village-centric.

Geography & Connectivity:

  • Located in Dharmapuri district, bordering Krishnagiri
  • Connected by state highways and rural roads
  • Limited rail access
  • Mix of plains and minor hill terrain
  • Challenges include poor interior roads, monsoon disruptions, and uneven market access.

Hotspots:

  • Canal tail-end villages
  • Water-stressed tank belts
  • SC colonies with infrastructure gaps
  • Interior road-poor hamlets
  • These areas often drive anti-incumbency sentiment.

Voter Mood:

  • Farmers seek assured irrigation and fair prices
  • Labourers want steady work and wages
  • Women prioritise water, pensions, healthcare
  • Youth demand skills, jobs, exam support
  • Elderly focus on pensions and medical access

Palacode voters reward grounded, accessible leadership.

While 22 MLAs from the AIADMK camp led by Edappadi K Palaniswami voted against the government, 25 MLAs from the rebel CV Shanmugam faction backed Vijay. Four Pattali Makkal Katchi MLAs and one BJP legislator abstained from voting. Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government had been formed with support from the Congress, Left parties, VCK and IUML. An AMMK MLA had also extended support before being expelled from the party. The Assembly proceedings witnessed high drama as infighting within the AIADMK spilled into the open. Tensions escalated after the Speaker invited rebel AIADMK leader SP Velumani to speak, triggering protests from the EPS camp, which repeatedly called for unity within the party ahead of the trust vote. Tamil Nadu Government Formation Highlights: DMK congratulates Vijay on forming government in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Government Formation News Highlights: The uncertainty over government formation in Tamil Nadu has come to an end after the VCK extended unconditional support to the TVK. Moreover, the IUML also extended its support to the Vijay-led party. Earlier in the day, AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran challenged TVK’s claim of securing his party’s support, demanding the original letter allegedly submitted to the Governor. He said AMMK MLA S Kamraj denied authorising such support and accused TVK of relying on a photocopied document, with a police complaint already filed. Kamraj further dismissed a video released by Vijay-led TVK as AI-generated. Meanwhile, a TVK supporter allegedly attempted self-immolation demanding Vijay become Chief Minister, prompting BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan to urge Vijay to calm supporters. Simultaneously, AIADMK MLAs met Edappadi K Palaniswami in Chennai, while Congress legislators remained camped in Hyderabad amid continuing political uncertainty.
