Vaniyambadi Assembly Election 2026
Vaniyambadi Assembly Constituency

Vaniyambadi is a strategically important urban–semi-urban Assembly constituency in Tirupattur district, Constituency No. 47, forming a key part of Tamil Nadu’s leather, footwear, and export manufacturing belt. Its politics are shaped by a strong Muslim presence, export-driven MSMEs, dense working-class neighbourhoods, and environmental stress, making it one of the most economically vibrant yet socially sensitive seats in North Tamil Nadu.

The constituency is highly competitive, with outcomes driven by minority consolidation, labour sentiment, and business continuity.
Vaniyambadi is also culturally distinctive—famous for its unique Vaniyambadi biryani, known for fragrant basmati rice and signature masala, its prominence in the leather industry, historical links to Tipu Sultan, and its reputation as the “Aligarh of South India” for educational institutions.

  • Leather and footwear industry workers
  • Small and medium entrepreneurs and exporters
  • Dalit and OBC working-class neighbourhoods
  • Migrant and informal labour

  • Industrial and tannery belts
  • Dense residential colonies
  • Market and transport hubs
  • Low-lying, drainage-stressed areas

Core Issues:

  • Pollution and groundwater contamination
  • Job security in export-linked industries
  • Drinking water quality and supply

  • Workers want job security and safer conditions
  • Muslim families prioritise dignity, welfare, and civic order

Tamil Nadu CM Floor Test Highlights: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay comfortably won the floor test on Wednesday, securing support from 144 MLAs after the DMK staged a walkout, bringing down the effective majority mark to 88 from 117. While 22 MLAs from the AIADMK camp led by Edappadi K Palaniswami voted against the government, 25 MLAs from the rebel CV Shanmugam faction backed Vijay. Four Pattali Makkal Katchi MLAs and one BJP legislator abstained from voting. Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government had been formed with support from the Congress, Left parties, VCK and IUML. An AMMK MLA had also extended support before being expelled from the party. The Assembly proceedings witnessed high drama as infighting within the AIADMK spilled into the open. Tensions escalated after the Speaker invited rebel AIADMK leader SP Velumani to speak, triggering protests from the EPS camp, which repeatedly called for unity within the party ahead of the trust vote. Tamil Nadu Government Formation Highlights: DMK congratulates Vijay on forming government in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Government Formation News Highlights: The uncertainty over government formation in Tamil Nadu has come to an end after the VCK extended unconditional support to the TVK. Moreover, the IUML also extended its support to the Vijay-led party. Earlier in the day, AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran challenged TVK’s claim of securing his party’s support, demanding the original letter allegedly submitted to the Governor. He said AMMK MLA S Kamraj denied authorising such support and accused TVK of relying on a photocopied document, with a police complaint already filed. Kamraj further dismissed a video released by Vijay-led TVK as AI-generated. Meanwhile, a TVK supporter allegedly attempted self-immolation demanding Vijay become Chief Minister, prompting BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan to urge Vijay to calm supporters. Simultaneously, AIADMK MLAs met Edappadi K Palaniswami in Chennai, while Congress legislators remained camped in Hyderabad amid continuing political uncertainty.
