Kalliasseri Assembly Constituency

Kalliasseri is a constituency located in the Kannur district that makes up Constituency No. 7 of the Kerala Legislative Assembly. It is one of the seven assembly segments that comprise the Kasaragod Lok Sabha constituency for national parliamentary elections. The constituency, which was created in its current configuration after the 2008 delimitation process, does not have reservation status.

Administrative and Geographical Profile

Kalliasseri encompasses a combination of rural and semi-urban areas. Cherukunnu, Cheruthazham, Ezhome, Kadannappalli-Panapuzha, Kalliasseri, Kannapuram, Kunhimangalam, Madayi, and Mattool Panchayats in Kannur Taluk and Pattuvam Panchayat in Taliparamba Taluk make up the constituency.

Voter base and electoral demographics 

The Kalliasseri constituency has 183,721 registered voters in the 2021 Kerala Legislative Assembly election, according to official Election Commission data. There were roughly 83,004 male voters, 100,716 female voters, and one voter of a third gender. Strong voter participation was demonstrated by the 78.86% overall turnout in the 2021 election.

Representation and Political History 

Since its founding, Kalliasseri has consistently served as a bastion for the Left Democratic Front (LDF). The largest party in LDF, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), has always won the seat. T. V. Rajesh (CPI(M)) won the seat in the 2011 and 2016 elections. In the 2021 election, M. Vijin (CPI(M)) has again won. 

Results of the 2021 Legislative Assembly Election

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) won the Kalliasseri Assembly Constituency handily in the 2021 Kerala Assembly election. Brijesh Kumar of the Indian National Congress (INC) came in second with 43,859 votes, or 30.13% of the total votes cast, while M. Vijin of the CPI(M) received 88,252 votes, or 60.62% of the total. Independent candidates and smaller parties split the remaining votes. With a commanding margin of 44,393 votes, or roughly 30.47% of all valid votes, M. Vijin won the election.
