Kuttiadi Assembly Election 2026
Kuttiadi Assembly Constituency

Situated in the Kozhikode district of Kerala, Kuttiadi legislative assembly constituency is the 21st constituency among the 140 constituencies in Kerala Legislative Assembly. It is included in the Vadakara Lok Sabha constituency for national parliamentary elections and is a general or unreserved constituency. The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], and other regional players have engaged in fierce elections in Kuttiadi. The constituency serves as a barometer for larger political trends in northern Kerala because it has experienced both tight margins and firmly established incumbents.

Administrative and Geographical Profile

Kuttiadi, which borders the districts of Mahé (Puducherry union territory) and Kannur, is located in the northern portion of Kozhikode district. It consists of Ayancheri, Kunnummal, Kuttiadi, Purameri, Thiruvallur, Velom, Maniyur and Villiappally Panchayats in Vadakara Taluk. Urban, peri-urban areas, and rural settlements make up the constituency's electorate, which is made up of people from commerce, agricultural, and service-oriented backgrounds. The constituency's demographic diversity contributes to its political complexity.

For the 2021 Kerala Assembly election, Kuttiadi has 2,02,211 registered voters, according to the Election Commission's official statistical data. As a result of Kerala's inclusive electoral roll maintenance, 98,790 of them were men, 1,03,717 were women, and 11 were identified as third gender. With a remarkable turnout of 83.94%, there were 1,69,483 legitimate ballots cast in 2021.

Political Trends and History

Kuttiadi has historically fluctuated between the main political parties in Kerala, especially the LDF and the UDF leadership. In the 2011 Assembly election, K. K. Lathika (CPI(M)) won the seat with 70,258 votes, handily defeating her opponent. The seat changed hands once more in the 2021 Kerala Assembly election when K. P. Kunhammed Kutti (CPI(M)) reclaimed it for the Left Democratic Front (LDF). In the 2016 election, Parakkal Abdulla (IUML) of the United Democratic Front (UDF) won the constituency with 71,809 votes against CPI(M)'s 70,652 votes in an incredibly close contest.

Results of the Kerala Assembly Election

In the 2021 assembly election, K. P. Kunhammed Kutti from CPI(M), the Communist Party of India (Marxist), won the election with 80,143 votes, or almost 47.20%, defeating Parakkal Abdulla (Indian Union Muslim League [IUML]), who received 79,810 votes, or around 47.01%. The remaining portion of the votes was bagged by independents and representatives of smaller parties.

One of the tightest margins in the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections, K. P. Kunhammed Kutti won the constituency by just 333 votes, or roughly 0.2% of the total votes cast.
The narrow margin separating the front-runners highlights the intense political rivalry in Kuttiadi and shows how each vote may have a big impact on results in seats that are evenly divided.

Voter Behaviour and Electoral Dynamics

In line with Kerala's long history of high levels of civic engagement, Kuttiadi's constituency generally shows high voter turnout, frequently exceeding 80 percent.
The constituency does not have a strong, stable political base; rather, it changes according to candidates, fronts, and current problems, as seen by the CPI(M) and IUML's nearly alternating triumphs.

Socioeconomic Status

Kuttiadi is distinguished by a variety of socioeconomic pursuits. For many locals, agriculture, which includes commodities like coconut, areca nut, and spices, remains a vital source of income. Remittances from people working overseas, especially in the Gulf region, help local household earnings and consumer spending, while trade and small companies in semi-urban areas contribute to economic activity.
