Live Results

Ambattur Assembly Constituency

Ambattur (No. 8) located in North-West Chennai, is a major industrial–residential constituency anchored by one of Tamil Nadu’s oldest industrial hubs, dense neighbourhoods, and growing commercial activity. Home to the Ambattur Industrial Estate, it forms the working and middle-class backbone of Chennai’s manufacturing and service economy. The constituency also houses the Ambattur Lake and a well-known Murugan temple, adding environmental and cultural significance.

Political & Social Profile

Ambattur’s electorate includes industrial workers, MSME employees, small traders, salaried professionals, and long-settled residents. Livelihood security, welfare access, and civic services outweigh caste considerations. Trade unions, resident welfare associations, and local community leaders play a strong role. Voters expect a hands-on and accessible MLA.

Geography & Connectivity

Fully urban in character, Ambattur has high-density housing, industrial zones, and commercial corridors. It is well-connected by suburban rail, bus routes, and arterial roads, though congestion near industrial areas and the railway station remains a concern. Monsoon-related drainage issues persist in low-lying pockets.

Development Context

The local economy is driven by manufacturing, engineering, auto components, electronics, logistics, and retail services. While employment remains strong, ageing infrastructure, drainage systems, and public amenities are under strain due to population density.

Core Issues

  • Monsoon flooding and poor stormwater drainage
  • Traffic congestion near industrial and station areas
  • Deteriorating interior roads
  • Drinking water shortages in select pockets
  • Solid waste management gaps
  • Pollution and industrial waste concerns
  • Overburdened public healthcare facilities

Voter Mood

  • Workers prioritise job security, transport, and safety
  • Residents demand flood control, water supply, and clean streets
  • Women seek better lighting, safety, and public transport
  • Elderly voters value healthcare access and walkability

Tamil Nadu CM Floor Test Highlights: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay comfortably won the floor test on Wednesday, securing support from 144 MLAs after the DMK staged a walkout, bringing down the effective majority mark to 88 from 117. While 22 MLAs from the AIADMK camp led by Edappadi K Palaniswami voted against the government, 25 MLAs from the rebel CV Shanmugam faction backed Vijay. Four Pattali Makkal Katchi MLAs and one BJP legislator abstained from voting. Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government had been formed with support from the Congress, Left parties, VCK and IUML. An AMMK MLA had also extended support before being expelled from the party. The Assembly proceedings witnessed high drama as infighting within the AIADMK spilled into the open. Tensions escalated after the Speaker invited rebel AIADMK leader SP Velumani to speak, triggering protests from the EPS camp, which repeatedly called for unity within the party ahead of the trust vote. Tamil Nadu Government Formation Highlights: DMK congratulates Vijay on forming government in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Government Formation News Highlights: The uncertainty over government formation in Tamil Nadu has come to an end after the VCK extended unconditional support to the TVK. Moreover, the IUML also extended its support to the Vijay-led party. Earlier in the day, AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran challenged TVK’s claim of securing his party’s support, demanding the original letter allegedly submitted to the Governor. He said AMMK MLA S Kamraj denied authorising such support and accused TVK of relying on a photocopied document, with a police complaint already filed. Kamraj further dismissed a video released by Vijay-led TVK as AI-generated. Meanwhile, a TVK supporter allegedly attempted self-immolation demanding Vijay become Chief Minister, prompting BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan to urge Vijay to calm supporters. Simultaneously, AIADMK MLAs met Edappadi K Palaniswami in Chennai, while Congress legislators remained camped in Hyderabad amid continuing political uncertainty.
