Tiruttani Assembly Constituency

Tiruttani is a temple-centric, Assembly Constituency No. 3, semi-rural, on Tamil Nadu’s northern border with Andhra Pradesh. Home to the Thiruthani Murugan Temple, one of the Arupadai Veedu (Six Abodes of Lord Murugan), the constituency’s identity, economy, and politics are deeply shaped by pilgrimage activity. The town is also historically significant as the birthplace of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, India’s first Vice President and former President.

The constituency combines religious tourism, dryland agriculture, and small-town commerce, with political discourse centred on temple management, water security, basic infrastructure, and welfare delivery.

Political & Social Profile:

The electorate is largely rural and semi-urban, comprising farmers, agricultural labourers, temple-linked workers, traders, transport operators, and welfare beneficiaries. Caste networks, village leadership, and MLA accessibility continue to influence voting behaviour, alongside effective delivery of government schemes. Temple committees and local associations play a key role in mobilisation.

Geography & Connectivity:

Marked by rocky terrain, temple hills, and scattered villages, Tiruttani town serves as the administrative hub. Road links connect Tiruvallur, Arakkonam, and nearby Andhra Pradesh towns, though interior village roads and public transport remain weak, and seasonal water scarcity persists.

Core Issues:

  • Drinking water scarcity and groundwater depletion
  • Irregular irrigation and tank maintenance
  • Poor interior road connectivity
  • Limited government healthcare facilities
  • Sanitation, traffic, and safety during festival seasons
  • Youth migration due to lack of local jobs

Voter Mood:

  • Farmers: irrigation stability and water security
  • Temple workers & traders: tourism infrastructure and crowd control
  • Rural households: roads, drinking water, welfare continuity
  • Youth: local jobs, skill training, education access
  • Elderly devotees: healthcare and transport facilities

Voters favour leaders who show visible presence, respect for religious institutions, effective festival management, and consistent delivery of basic services, making Tiruttani a highly localised, relationship-driven constituency.

Tamil Nadu CM Floor Test Highlights: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay comfortably won the floor test on Wednesday, securing support from 144 MLAs after the DMK staged a walkout, bringing down the effective majority mark to 88 from 117. While 22 MLAs from the AIADMK camp led by Edappadi K Palaniswami voted against the government, 25 MLAs from the rebel CV Shanmugam faction backed Vijay. Four Pattali Makkal Katchi MLAs and one BJP legislator abstained from voting. Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government had been formed with support from the Congress, Left parties, VCK and IUML. An AMMK MLA had also extended support before being expelled from the party. The Assembly proceedings witnessed high drama as infighting within the AIADMK spilled into the open. Tensions escalated after the Speaker invited rebel AIADMK leader SP Velumani to speak, triggering protests from the EPS camp, which repeatedly called for unity within the party ahead of the trust vote. Tamil Nadu Government Formation Highlights: DMK congratulates Vijay on forming government in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Government Formation News Highlights: The uncertainty over government formation in Tamil Nadu has come to an end after the VCK extended unconditional support to the TVK. Moreover, the IUML also extended its support to the Vijay-led party. Earlier in the day, AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran challenged TVK’s claim of securing his party’s support, demanding the original letter allegedly submitted to the Governor. He said AMMK MLA S Kamraj denied authorising such support and accused TVK of relying on a photocopied document, with a police complaint already filed. Kamraj further dismissed a video released by Vijay-led TVK as AI-generated. Meanwhile, a TVK supporter allegedly attempted self-immolation demanding Vijay become Chief Minister, prompting BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan to urge Vijay to calm supporters. Simultaneously, AIADMK MLAs met Edappadi K Palaniswami in Chennai, while Congress legislators remained camped in Hyderabad amid continuing political uncertainty.
