Mohanan of the Socialist Janata Democratic (SJD) won the seat in 2011. In 2016, the constituency elected K. K. Shailaja Teacher (CPI(M)), a prominent member of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and later state health minister, with a sizable margin, highlighting the LDF's stronghold. K. P. Mohanan of the Left Democratic Alliance's Loktantrik Janta Dal (LJD) won the seat in 2021.

Results of the 2021 Kerala Assembly Election

Approximately 80.37% of registered voters participated in the 2021 Assembly election, demonstrating the high level of civic involvement from the seat's urban and rural populations. The 2021 assembly election demarcated a fierce competition in Kuthuparamba. With 70,626 votes (about 45.36%), K. P. Mohanan of the Loktantrik Janta Dal (LJD) within the Left Democratic Alliance defeated Pottankandi Abdulla of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), who received 61,085 votes (around 39.23%), by a margin of 9,541 votes. With 21,212 votes, that is about 13.62%, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominee C. Sadanandan Master came in third. NOTA and independents received a minor portion of the total votes.
