Live Results

Perambra Assembly Constituency

Perambra is a legislative assembly seat located in Kerala's Kozhikode district. It is a part of the Vadakara Lok Sabha constituency for national parliamentary elections and one of the 140 seats that comprise the Kerala Legislative Assembly. Perambra has a significant impact on the political climate of northern Kerala, which is influenced by competitive multi-party politics, socioeconomic diversity, and strong voter involvement.

Perambra has continuously been a politically significant seat with representation from major political fronts in the state, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF). The constituency is made up of both rural voters and urban voters.

Geography and Local Administration

The Perambra constituency is located about 30 to 40 kilometers from Kozhikode city in the northern portion of the Kozhikode district. It consists of Arikkulam, Chakkittapara, Changaroth, Cheruvannur, Keezhariyur, Koothali, Meppayyur, Nochad, Perambra and Thurayur Panchayats in Quilandy Taluk. The socioeconomic mix of farmers, traders, professionals, and daily wage earners is reflected in the constituency's geographic diversity, which comprises semi-urban wards, commercial town centers, and agricultural plains. It was in Perambra that the Nipah virus disease was reported for the first time in Kerala.

Voter Participation and Electoral Demographics

Perambra has a long history of voter turnout, with 198218 registered voters, according to the Election Commission of India's official statistics report for the 2021 Kerala Assembly election. The constituency's turnout of almost 82.6% is in line with Kerala's general high voter turnout tendency. The state's electoral roll frequently shows that there were more female voters than male voters, which encouraged active and knowledgeable involvement. According to official turnout statistics provided by Kerala's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), 156,723 legitimate ballots were cast in the 2021 election. With a sizable majority of registered voters casting ballots to influence parliamentary representation, these numbers demonstrate Perambra's democratic vibrancy.

Political Trends and History

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], as part of the LDF and the Indian National Congress (INC), as part of the UDF, have both won elections in Perambra throughout decades of political rivalry. Over time, changes in voter mood, the attraction of local leaders, and more general state-level political trends have all been reflected in political representation.

In the previous elections, the UDF (INC and affiliated parties) has remained competitive, sometimes winning seats or pushing fights to close margins, whereas the LDF (mostly CPI(M)) has maintained a strong foothold by utilising local organisational strength and historical presence in northern Kerala. Despite maintaining smaller vote shares, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have steadily grown in popularity, especially among younger and aspirational voters.

Results of the 2021 Kerala Assembly Election

In the 2021 Kerala Assembly election, current LDF convenor T. P. Ramakrishnan of the CPI(M) won the Perambra seat with a 52.54 per cent vote share, securing 86,023 votes and continuing the constituency’s strong Left Democratic Front tradition. He registered a comfortable victory over C. H. Ebrahimkutty, an Independent candidate backed by the UDF, who polled 63,431 votes, winning by a margin of over 22,000 votes. The result once again underlined Perambra’s long-standing support for Left politics. Meanwhile, BJP candidate Adv. K. V. Sudheer received 11,165 votes (6.82 per cent), while SDPI candidate Ismail Kammana polled 1,465 votes.
