Manjeri Assembly Election Results 2026

Live Results

Manjeri Assembly Constituency

Manjeri is a legislative assembly seat located in Malappuram district in Kerala. It is a part of the Malappuram Lok Sabha constituency for national parliamentary elections and is the 37th of the 140 seats in the Kerala Legislative Assembly. The constituency has long been acknowledged as a stronghold of the United Democratic Front (UDF) alliance and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), reflecting both the region's demographic makeup and the organisation's decades-long organisational strength.

Geography and Local Governance

Manjeri Municipality and Pandikkad and Trikkalangode Panchayats in Ernad Taluk and Edappatta and Keezhattur Panchayats in Perinthalmanna Taluk are included in the Manjeri Assembly Constituency.

Voter Engagement and the Electorate

According to the official reports, there are around  2,06,960 people registered to vote in the Manjeri Kerala Legislative Assembly election in 2021. With a voter turnout of almost 75.95 percent, this constituency demonstrated high civic engagement. Local stakeholders frequently mobilize their communities during campaigns and polling, and voting patterns in Manjeri have consistently showed participation across age and gender lines.

Historical Context and Political Background

Manjeri has typically supported the UDF from its founding in 1957, especially the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). According to historical records, the IUML has consistently won this seat. Despite the Left gaining ground in the state, Manjeri stood fast with the UDF and IUML for all the assembly elections in the last few decades. Members of the IUML and affiliated leaders have represented Manjeri in elections over the years, including P. K. Abdu Rabb, M. Ummer, and most recently U. A. Latheef. This pattern also demonstrates the constituency's historical propensity to uphold political continuity, with voter preferences frequently in line with coalition performance and community-oriented leadership rather than abrupt front swings.

Results of the 2021 Kerala Assembly Election

Adv. U. A. Latheef of the IUML won the race with 78,836 votes, or around 50.22 percent of the legitimate ballots cast, according to the official statistical report. Naser Debona of the Communist Party of India (CPI), a member of the Left Democratic Front, was his principal rival. He received 64,263 votes, or around 40.93 percent of the total. NOTA received almost 0.77 percent of the vote, while candidates from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and an independent candidate received the remaining votes. Adv. Latheef's victory margin of 14,573 votes, or approximately 9.34 percent of all valid ballots, confirmed the IUML's ongoing electoral dominance in the constituency.

Voter Behaviour and Electoral Dynamics

The demographic makeup of the electorate, which includes sizable numbers of Muslims, along with Hindus, and Christians, has influenced the political climate. While the IUML maintains a strong base, voters are receptive to alternative platforms when they are presented well, as evidenced by the LDF's competitiveness, especially through CPI candidates, which has occasionally raised vote shares for the Left. In the multiparty landscape of the constituency, the BJP (NDA) has also run for the seat and secured a tiny vote share that shows its status as a lesser but noticeable force.
